Wowzers I've missed a lot in here! I need my go-go-gadget slow-down-time machine so I can read everything and respond! Unfortunately, I can't find it

I had to increase my work hours because several projects DH was working on all fell through at the same time so we need my income. Thankfully there is plenty of work for me to do, and I think my supervisor would be supportive of my dropping these extra hours if I can after a few months. He told me that I got tagged for a promotion which would be a big raise next year which may also allow me to drop a few hours. It's hard, we're trying really hard to get out of debt, so we reduce our bills, so I don't have to work as much - but to do that I need to work. Plus I had kinda planned on starting to try for a second this upcoming summer, but if we need me to work 30-40 hrs a week... idk. I'll get to that hurdle when it comes!

Anyway, I've been here a lot less because I just started my increased hours this week, and between 12-14 hour days and catching up on my off-days I feel like I can't be here very much as a participant. I wish I was a better support and encouragement and able to share the comraderie that really grows us and has brought a wonderful group of women together here. I feel I have grown spiritually through you, both through interaction and through studying the conversations that take place. I feel incredibly blessed God has kept women like you in my life, because it makes me feel, gosh it's hard to say - overwhelmed? that He continues to call me.
This isn't a goodbye - I'll be lurking when I have 5-10 minutes here and there and hopefully able to post.

Aww Jenn I will miss reading your posts but that is completely understandable. Praise God that you have been tagged for a promotion and for being Jehovah Jirah!

basically its preaching straight through scripture in order. Like our pastor is using the book of John right now. He is going verse by verse and does every Sunday morning out of the book of John started with John 1 months ago. Like the last verses were john 14 1:8..next week he may review 1-8 but will move on to verse 9 and beyond. It's opposite of topical preaching which takes a specific topic and goes through the bible all over the place preaching on that topic. He does do topicals on Wednesday nights. Like the topic of Satan was the month of October. He did a topical on Prayer, Parenting, Marriage. ETC.....Both preaching styles are very good. Exegetical preaching is interesting because you go verse by verse and every single verse of scripture has so much in it!!! You'll be amazed. Sometimes if a preacher focuses tooo much on topical preaching you loose some of the minute details of the verse that get skipped. But if a preacher spends too much time exegetical preaching they sometimes loose important topics that edify the breatheren. Does that make sense??

Brenda, I love how your pastor teaches both ways! Ours does too, but only Sundays, sort of rotates for a couple months at a time. I like both styles for different reasons, but thats awesome that he teaches mid week too!

Brenda~That's how our church teaches as well. We just finished the book of 1 John this past Sunday. We'll have a week or two at the most in between dedicated to something specific like the next two weeks it'll be Evangalism but then we go back to 10-12 weeks of teaching from the book of a Bible. I find it so much better to be able to understand the Word and the context of books from the Bible this way. It's awesome!

Our pastor preaches exegetically, too. He likes to say, the meaning of the passage is the message of the sermon. Right now he's doing more of an overview of the various "I AM" statements of Jesus out of John. So, it's topical but exegetical at the same time. lol

Dinner (Red Lobster, I think, because we have a coupon ) and a movie (Harry Potter). The kids are having an overnight with the ILs, so dh and I'll probably go out for breakfast before we pick them up.

Thanks, everyone. We had a good time! The only bummer was that I was nauseous all through the movie.

Congrats on the promotion! I'm sorry you are having to work so much. I hope that you will be able to reach your financial goal quickly so you can stay home more. What a blessing to have such a flexible and understanding job though!

We will miss you, but we understand. Pop in and say hello when you can!

Yep! Calvary Chapel really emphasizes exegetical preaching. Until going there I had never experienced that at a church before. It was amazing, especially in contrast to my former church which was ALL topical and very focused around whatever the pastor was dealing with in his personal life.

The teaching here is like what Amanda said, exegetical, but topical at the same time. lol I really feel I have learned so much more about God's word this way. I love it!

My sister asked me to sew her newborn a blessing dress (and asked how much I would charge her... which was just silliness!). She is due in December, and they will be blessing the baby the first week of January. I am excited and nervous! I really hope it turns out ok. Oh, and a bonnet, too, which I think will look adorable.

Crazy long church members' meeting tonight. 2.5 hours! But it was really really good. A lot of things were addressed: changes to the church constitution, the elder that left, others that have left, and that incident of church discipline (following Matthew 18, the situation was brought up and we, as a congregation, are to 1. pray for him, 2. seek/treat him in love, 3. pray for his wife and daughter).

Our church leadership are such godly, loving, smart men. I really do love my church.
