Jennifer Cosmo is SO adorable!
You all are on a roll today!
Bridget, I'm still stuck on the fact that you got a nap. I want to go there (said in my best Liz Lemon voice).
(Molly,. I just realized I came and visited you a year ago today. Good times!)
I just realized you might all be saying WTH is a Liz Lemon voice?, so I dug up an exemplar:

Bridget, your DBF is SO funny. He really thought he could get away with that?
Jennifer, Pan is a Great Dane (not particularly well bred) and Khan is a German Shepherd/Malamute mix (we think).
Oh, no, Kate. Are you able to still write to us on your phone or something?
==========
I want to share fur baby pics too...
The one on the left is our big boy, Cayo (who was crazy when we first got him, but is the sweetest most mellow dog you could want today). And on the right is a photo of Lulu as a puppy, taken from the pet rescue's website before we even met her. So this pic is the first way we ever laid eyes on her. She was a puppy then, so you can imagine she's much bigger now:

And then our 3rd child came along.

Suja, my first (self-bought) car was a 2000 Xterra. It was forest green and I called "him" Norbert, after the baby dragon in Harry Potter. I loved that car, but had a mid-life crisis at 28 and traded it for a small silver convertible, which I later traded in for a Volvo convertible. Then after having a baby and realizing the Volvo was no family car , I now find myself driving a hand-me-down beater that I got from my parents that's even older than Norbert. Funny how that happens, isn't it?
Am I the only one who names cars? In addition to Norbert, I had ...
The Batmobile - a puke-brown 80's Malibu station wagon that I inherited from my sister who'd inherited from mom and dad, and she'd placed a Batman sticker on it
The Sour Queen - a white hatchback car that kept stalling
Issy - short for "ineffectual suckup". She was an Eclipse who looked very sexy on the outside, but was very uncomfortable on the inside. Plus, she was so well-sealed, your ears would pop when you slammed the doors shut.
Then Norbert.
Then the little convertible, an MR2 Spyder, which had two names, because obviously a convertible has 2 identities, kind of like Superman: He was Squirtle when the top was up (because he looked like a turtle that way and Squirtle was the name of a turtle Pokemon), and Mister Two (MR2, get it?) which was the car's superhero identity when it "converted"
The Volvo convertible was MaggieMillyMollyMay, after my favorite e.e. cummings poem.
And now my beater 4Runner, which has given me the least amount of problems of any car I've owned. To reward it for its loyalty, I have spared its dignity by not giving it a name.
When I commuted by car on the LA freeways, there was a time I combatted boredom by coming up with names for cars I'd see on the road on a regular basis. Let's see: there was Emile the Amigo, (Ford) Ranger Dave, "Aha!" the Land Rover Discovery, Connie Celica (remember Connie Seleca?), the Ford Gay Male Escort, and of course, the very honest Abe Lincoln Towncar. I think I may have had a little too much time to kill right around then.

Funny, I didn't give the Volvo convertible two names. LOL.
Suja, speaking of batmobiles and great danes, did you know the Batman actor, Burt Ward, now runs a great dane rescue?

Random factoid for ya.
Cute dogs, Myles. The biped too. I have a soft spot for brindle dogs.
I have a friend who names cars. She had a Festiva named Moonpie of Delight. BTW, my Xterra is a 2000. I don't believe in buying cars unless I have to, so she will be driven until she no longer works.
Yup. It is a scam. They are a front for BYBs and puppy mills. http://www.gentlegiantnews.com/index.php
Suja, those are BIG dogs!
So I found out that the mini-goldendoodles are 1500. Yikes! But they do come with most shots done as well as spay/neutering.....so that helps out some.
We name stuff too. My car is Rusty and is a boy. He's orange. The PT Cruiser is just Cruiser and she's a girl.
Our trees we have planted....so far there is Bruce the Colorado Blue Spuce, Franklin the Northern Pin Oak, a smoke bush his mom bought us and she likes to smoke so that one is Smoky, a mini pine forgot what kind but his name is Sniff-it because everytime cosmo goes out there, she has to sniff it.
Most of the house plants have names too as well as a few other things in the house like the TV and cooler. Cooler you ask? Well DH was bugging me about the name Ezekiel. I hate it for a kid and I think that made him love it more. So I named the cooler Ezekiel and now there is now way he could try to use it for a kid.
I have my desktop but it's in the office, not where Josh usually plays, and I have an ipod touch that's a pain to type on. I'm sure I'll manage though ;) It's probably something stupid anyway, but it looks like everything's plugged in...
I named my first car Scorpio, I think, after the sign we were in when I bought it. But I didn't name my current car.
Oh, no! Why am I surprised? I felt similarly scammed by a Bouvier rescue (my dream gentle giant breed). I was going to adopt one and learned their supply was former show dogs that could no longer compete. The "adoption" fee was something like $900. Much preferred to save one from being destroyed, so backed off from Bouvier plans. Lulu was chosen for her bouvier-like qualities. The other was from the pound.
The pound is heartbreaking. You want to take every single one home.
My DH would steal Khan from you if he could. Those are two of his fave breeds. What a beauty.
Bouviers are too much dog for me. There are not a lot in rescue, and I wouldn't be averse to a retired show dog, as long as the breeder is responsible, and not unreasonable on the fees. $900 does seem like a lot.
Khan is just an amazing dog. Not the sharpest crayon in the box, but a very good dog. I went to volunteer for Shepherd rescue, and ended up putting in an app on him. I've been looking for another like him in the 10+ years I've been with the rescue, and no luck.
Oh I love all these pictures of your dogs!! My 15 year old Dachshund died last year. It's the first time in my life I've been without a pet, I have always had a dog and/or cat. But we are waiting until G is older, and we have a fenced yard. I want another Dachshund, I grew up with Dachshunds, love them. And we want a big dog, lab probably. Although I like labradoodles, love the no shedding aspect, a lot. My dh also really likes Rhodesian Ridgebacks, they are beautiful gentle dogs. I've looked into Ridgeback Rescues, so we will see.
Shelley, 15 is a good age for a Dachshund. I am sure she had a great life with you.
I don't like paying money to breeders for purposebred mutts - there really is no consistency in size, shape, temperament, etc. and I'm yet to see one that does any genetic health screens. I've seen a lot of Lab/Poodle mixes, and they've been all over the map, and generally not in a good way. Mixing shedding breeds with non-shedding breeds in no way guarantees offspring with non-shedding coats (dog coat genetics do not work that way), and a lot of these dogs have nightmarish, high maintenance coats. Let's not even get into temperament - AIEEEE!
Bridget, was your dbf the same way about being alone with S & K when they were babies? Just curious. A friend of mine has 3 kids, and her dh flat out refused to change a diaper, or be left alone with the baby. It wasn't until they were potty trained, and talking, that he would be left home alone with them. I was always a little shocked by that.
I'm not very original with naming my cars, nor consistent. My convertible I call Cabby and my XL7 I call Suzi ('cause it's a Suzuki).
It'll be many many years before we'll be in the market for another dog, if ever, but I'll never buy from a breeder. I'll only adopt from a shelter. I don't care much about breed...it's all the personality of the dog and whether or not there's a connection for me.

We got Nero from a no-kill shelter at 8 weeks and were told he was a lab mix. As he grew up it became obvious he is a flattie - except for one white paw with black spots that seems to indicate some spaniel heritage. He's about 10 now and a little arthritic but doing very well - I'm sure it's the fact that he's a mix that gave his genetics a boost. But I would love another flattie when he's gone. He has the classic personality and I adore him. We'll see. Hopefully I don't have to think about that for a while.
Umm...when we moved from NY to AZ my sister and brother were driving one of the family cars with the cat (in her carrier) in the backseat. My sister felt sorry for her and let her roam, and then rolled down her window. The cat decided to jump out the window and my brother - who was driving - reached across my sister to grab the cat as she jumped out the passenger window. Fortunately he caught her by the tail and my sister learned her lesson.
LOL ... a friend of mine has a hurricane Katrina rescue dog. She was told her dog needed counseling to recover from his traumatic ordeal. She said, "Counseling? How could he go to counseling if he's not even allowed to sit on the couch?" Made me LOL ... although my dogs are on the couch all the time....
DH CONSTANTLY reminds me of that episode and teases that he wants a helper monkey. But in reality, I've heard monkeys have bad personalities, too.

LOL, Mandy. I've also heard they stink to high heaven too.
That said, I always wanted a monkey as a child. There was a daytime TV show called "Fantasy" where you could write in with your fantasy and the show would travel around granting people's wishes. (heh, a proto-"Reality" show called "Fantasy". I never thought of that.) At around age 8, I wrote a letter to them asking them to send my parents on a nice vacation and for them to send me a pet monkey. Monkeys are still my favorite animals (although I've lately been obsessed with dragonflies and hummingbirds, since I started making up stories for Bodhi about how they get along and play together).
Now that I have a child and am revisiting old books and TV shows I watched, I'm pretty sure now that I developed my monkey crush because of Curious George, and I love big shaggy dogs because of Barkley on Sesame Street.
For some reason I have no good pictures of Nero. This is about the best picture of his face - forgive the fuzziness. His fur is blacker than it looks here, too, and he's badly in need of a paw trim. (Not sure why it's so big - should be 400x400).
Here we are together:
And here is my Gwennie with her anti-anxiety compression vest. Yes, I have a dog with a psych disorder.
