My DH always said his dream job would be to test mattresses for a living. Get the sleeping done at work so you have extra fun time at home. LOL
I'm so nervous about the idea of working for myself soon. Very exciting!
I would love to be a pro poker player as well. I love playing poker.
Dbf plays poker. Very well. Very often.
I love me some red wine. I love beer too. I had a few drunken nights before I found out that I was pregnant with Savana. I drank a lot back then and was not trying to get pregnant.
I went to see my parents last night and the final last ditch effort treatment my mom took makes her really dizzy and the morphine makes her really out of it. She's like a different person. She is usually really sharp and this is so hard to get used to. My brother's wife, whom I do not normally get along with but am for the sake of family unity, emailed me last night. She said when they were visiting last weekend they found a couple of my mom's meds on the kitchen floor. Now they don't feel comfortable bringing their little ones (2 and 3) over there. And I get that. I just don't know what the answer is. This is all just HARD.
On a happy note. Tonight I'm going over to this retired preschool teachers house to buy a bunch of her resources from her and I'm really excited. I know she has the entire set of those alphabet "sound box" books. We check those out at the library and it really kickstarted Savanas interest in letters. So yipee! It's the little things.
Oh COOL, Bridget! I just bought "how to read your kid to read in 100 easy lessons" because it seemed like a fun thing to try, so I'll let you know how O likes it. He loves anything that's a "learning game." DH and he have been playing 'match the shapes' together and he loves it.
I confess I hate anything that smells of gambling. I have an uncle and aunt (sorta, she's my age) who both work in the pro poker industry and I think it's completely disgusting (no Lydia, not the uncle you met). Sorry gals!
Poker is a lot of fun.
I've never been a big wine or beer drinker. I think it's the taste I'm not into. I like stuff like Vodka, and mixed drinks. Anything fruity or mixed I usually have no problem with.
I'm so sorry about what's going on with your mom.I can understand why your SIL doesn't want to bring their children over there, but overall it's just a difficult situation. Your family is in my thoughts all the time.
I'm glad you might be able to get some items from the teacher! It's always the little things that are great, in my opinion. They usually happen more often than the big things, so it keeps you going. At least that's how I see it![]()

It took me a second to realize what you meant. I was like "What does gambling smell like?"
No worries, I'm not offended. I'm definitely not one of those people who would go into a casino and blow all my money on a few easy bets. I just love to play poker because it's a people game. A big portion of it is intuition and reading people. There's a slight math concept, but mostly I think it's definitely a people game. You won't find me spending a lot of time on blackjack or any of those slots games. Booooring.![]()

You would think. I just don't overstep my boundaries with her anymore because she will unleash her wrath on me and it ain't pretty. She even said something about how her 7 and 9 year old might think it's candy.Pretty sure they are old enough to have a frank discussion with about eating stuff off the floor at grandma's house. Even Savana and Kai get that.
I've offered my house to them if they want but who knows if my house is even child proofed enough for them. For sure Savana's room is not. She's like a little old lady with her plants and her breakable little trinkets.![]()
I confess I miss my baby girl.. well, she's my KITTY baby girlHer name is Sascha. We got her when I was still dating my ex, and I so badly wanted to take her with me, but I couldn't. She was barely a year when I left. She used to run to my door with a "thump" when she'd slide against the wooden floor and run into the door, and I'd go "Is that my baby girl?" and I'd hear a "meow".
Last year, they didn't have her fixed, and she got out of the house and got impregnated by who knows what. This was in NH, so I have no clue what kind of animals were out there. Then she went into premature labor and almost died. I am so mad that they didn't take care of her - and by they, I mean my ex and his parents. They got three other kittens besides her (they were all in the same litter) and all of them were fixed. She was the only one who wasn't. My ex's sister sent me a video on FB recently and I just miss her so much. She'd definitely be wonderful company all day while I'm home.
Here's a pic of her when she was barely 3 months old

And now her as a fully grown cat:

Ack. I miss her, lol.

Dbf's dad pretty much lost everything their family had playing poker.Dbf is really smart about it. Does everyone say that? It's time consuming but he won't invest a lot of money into it. He'll play a $5-$10 tourney to win a seat in a larger one. He's never put us in any financial strain because of it but it annoys the crap out of me when he's sitting at the computer for like 10 hours straight while I bust my ass doing everything around the house. He considers it a job so I wish he'd go rent an office or something. It's just aggravating. But nice when he wins.
I'm pretty sure even a 7 year old would know not to pick stuff up off the floor. That's kind weird.
That is so adorable that Savana has those things at her age, and that she apparently takes care of them very well! I wasn't even trusted with a fish at her age - I had one that looked like the goldfish in Pinocchio and when she wouldn't let me rub her stomach, I put her on a coffee can lid OUT IN THE OPENYeah.. I didn't know fish couldn't breathe out of water

I know. Savana scolds her dad all the time. If she comes in the kitchen and his vitamins are where she can reach them she'll say, "DAD. You should not leave these where I can reach them."
It's the same with all this drama about my little brother being gay. I just don't think they give their kids enough credit. Even the older ones could help moniter the little ones. Savana helps me all the time with the little ones in daycare. They are naturally inclined to help.
I do stuff like that. Online poker, I feel, is safer than real live poker, because they do things like free-rolls, where you play for free (no buy in) and you can win money to get into larger tournaments, so you're basically not paying anything, and if you're good, you reap the benefits. The ONLY downside is that once it starts getting down to the nitty gritty, it can take a long time to finish it up. There's been countless times where Clinton has come home from work ready to go food shopping or whatever, and I'm in the middle of a tourney and have to leave, and I feel bad because it wasn't my intention to be playing one game for hours, haha.

It would be hard if there was a gambling problem. My DH LOVES to hit the casino. Used to go like once or twice a month but it was only 20 minutes a way. he was REALLY good though about going with 50-70 to spend and that would be IT. And often came home ahead though doesn't expect that. He likes the sounds of a casino and likes to watch poker on TV or play it on the Wii.
Now we are like 90 minutes away so hardly ever go.
When we went to Vegas, we brought a certain amount and when gone, it's gone. Came home ahead though.
I will play a bit of slots but DH's game is roulette. He like craps too but really it's all about the wheel for him.
Clinton and I friend won a trip to Vegas from this radio contest. I've honestly never been. We're about an hour or so away from Winstar Casino in OK, and I've been really wanting to hit the felt and see what it's like to play a real game. And I'd do what your DH does, bring a set amount of money, NO ATM cards, and when I'm done, that's it. It's sort of like credit cards for me. I refuse to have one until I absolutely need one. Right now my ATM card has a credit card symbol and that's good enough for me.
Roulette makes me so nervous. There's no control over what happens, and I hate that
I love watching poker on TV. GSN usually has a marathon on Sundays. I'm all about it.

My grandfather was a gambling addict. I think. It was all very mysterious, but I think he might have embezzled some $ to cover his gambling debts. My grandmother divorced him when my dad was very young, and never told my dad about him. My dad grew up thinking his stepfather was his natural father. We found out about him when I was little, and when we visited he used to take us to the horse track.
I love going to casinos, ever since I was 21 and on my way to California, and stopped in at a casino on the state line in Nevada and put three quarters in and got a gigantic jackpot. The back seat of my car was covered in a thick carpet of quarters, and for weeks all I had to do was reach back there and pull out a big handful to pay for miscellaneous stuff. I used to go to Reno with friends once or twice a year before I was married, but now I don't have the time or the extra money, and wouldn't feel right gambling with money that is not just mine. So I don't, and it's probably just as well I stopped. I definitely don't have a tendency toward drug or alcohol addiction, but I love the adrenalin of gambling and fast motorcycles and other risk-taking behaviors.
gosh you guys talk a lot! I was at an all day conference & I feel like I missed a week. I toured Ithaca College's IT dept and I have to say-they put Cornell's IT offices to shame. It's really disgusting how poorly managed our IT is.
There was no way you could have known.
I'm not a fan of gambling either, and I drank a beer when I was in my 3rd trimester with ConnerIronically, I always hate beer and it makes me sick to drink one, but I really craved it when I was pregnant with him. I don't think I finished one, but I did drink about 1/2 and I liked it. It was the only time beer tasted good to me.
I love gambling. Love love love it.
So when I go, I put however much money I am going to blow into my right pocket...then if I lose it, that's it. If I win, I put winnings into my left pocket up to the amount that I started with, and once I've gotten back to break even...I just gamble with what are the winnings.. so more than half the time, I end up leaving with what I came with.

I confess that I worry about a friend of mine. I know she's anorexic and I'm pretty sure she's not receiving any kind of medical care for it. Her family is all overseas so I guess she doesn't have any direct support from them. I'm not in a position to say anything because we're not super close and it's none of my business. I just hope she has someone else in her life advocating for her.
Thanks!
Hugs, and yay for little things
This is what I was thinking.
Boy you guys were busy while I was gone today. I confess we drove two hours to my mom's house and when we got there she said "Did I know you were coming?" Turns out I flaked out and it was supposed to be next Thursday. She was just about to go out. We're lucky we caught her. We still had a great time. Josh fell asleep late on the way home so we will see how bedtime goes.
I know you're not close, but maybe you could put out feelers about if she needs someone to talk to or something like that, that way if maybe she's unsure about what to do, there's someone to help. I'm not really sure. Some anorexics do not believe there is anything wrong with them, and some are caught in a vicious cycle and want to get out but don't know how. It's such a tough situation. I really hope your friend gets the help she needs.
I confess I need to start temping again.. not because DBF and I are TTC, but because I have no clue when I'm supposed to get my periodI don't think I'm late.. but I kinda forget when I got my last period.. I know it was last month but I dunno if it was early in the month or late.. if it was early last month, then I'm late.. and if not, then I should be expecting it soon. Man.. not the type of predicament I wanna be in right now!

omg-I can totally see myself doing something like that! Glad you caught her!
As for the anorexia, I honestly don't know what anyone can say or do for a person suffering from it. I'm assuming she's an adult, and if so there really isn't anything anyone can do. My SIL is anorexic. She knows it, she knows the risks and she doesn't care. She says she'd rather be dead than fat, and she has an issue with 100. If she hits that mark, she will not eat till she's lower, even if it takes 3 days to get there. She's 34 years old and a single mother of 3 children. It sounds selfish of her-and maybe people would say it is-but anorexia IS a disease. Unfortunately, you cannot force someone into treatment if they don't want it.
I've told her flat out she is going to die if she keeps it up. She's in school for nursing and works as a nurse's aid. She knows what she's doing to herself. I'm totally at a loss as to what anyone could do for her.
