"Any idiot can face a crisis; it is this day-to-day living that wears you out." -Anton Chekhov
Actually, come to think of it, my sister and I were both unplanned. My dad wasn't too thrilled, but my mom never let me doubt that we were totally loved and wanted. She gave us nicknames after the IUD brands she was wearing when she conceived us: Dalkon Dinah and Lippy Loop Lydia.
Needless to say, I've never used IUDs for birth control. Or anything, for that matter.
I was my mother's fourth pregnancy (third child) and I remember she told me I was the only one that was planned. I never noticed she loved my brother and sister any differently. Although thinking about it now, I really hope she never told them that growing up! Hmm, maybe that's why my sister is jealous of me sometimes....

Why yes, they are.
This is my dad. I don't think he's got his own private army anymore. When he became very involved with Buddhism, he stopped going to Africa so much. And then he co-produced a film called Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion. I'm never actually sure what he's doing, but I'm sure it's something. Every year, I'd find something else out--what? he bought a ranch in Idaho and he's raising wolves? Really? He would just say things like he'd give me a Christmas present once he sold the Kingdom Hall for Jehovah's Witnesses that he'd bought in Utah. Things like that.
I think my childhood was a little unusual.
How crazy!!! I've heard of the anti-poaching armies, maybe not that one in particular, but wow. And yeah, I remember you mentioning his involvement with Snow Lion - it's probably one of the first things I remember about you, actually, because I spent some time around the "Thurman devotees" when I was an undergradAnd why in the world does he own a Kingdom Hall?
Can you tell that I'm fascinated by fascinating people? Though yea... the baby comment sorta takes the edge off![]()
Wow Lydia. Fascinating! Kinda wanna be a fly on his wall for a day or two. Or maybe a louse (singular for lice, no?). Wheee! I need to go to bed!
Kate, mama to Madi (4/18/08) and Jacob (10/8/10)
I confess I DTD with DH and didn't tell him I think I'm ovulating in the near future. He kinda indicated last time it puts a lot of pressure on him, so I decided to keep him in the dark.Is that wrong of me??

I confess can you guys look at this and tell me wtf happened? LOL
I haven't talked to this "friend" in weeks, we used to do playdates all the time but she became busy all of a sudden and now when we chat online we have stupid conversations like this one. All I wanted to do was shoot the breeze and I felt attacked. Was I being too sensitive? When she asked "where's hubby" like I should make DH put him to bed just because someone wants to chat with me...ooo that made me mad
Notice the times...sometimes I will say something and she won't respond for like 15 minutes. If you don't have time to chat, don't start!
Her (10/1/2009 7:10:22 PM): kate!!!! how in the world r u?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 7:12:28 PM): hey sorry i missed you, i gotta give josh a bath, but i might be on later.
Her (10/1/2009 7:12:58 PM): ok, i should be around..hope all is well.
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 7:33:27 PM): Hey, I'm around for a while before Josh goes to bed
Her (10/1/2009 7:51:12 PM): ooppss.
Her (10/1/2009 7:51:16 PM): still around?
Her (10/1/2009 7:51:25 PM): you doing the whole bedtime thing tonight?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 7:57:31 PM): yeah i gotta go up now and put him to bed but i will be down 20 minutes or so
Her (10/1/2009 7:57:44 PM): where's hubby?
Her(10/1/2009 7:57:51 PM): ok, i should be here
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 8:15:12 PM): he's here, we just both put him to bed now or he calls and calls until the other comes up
*when she didn't respond here I got up and watched tv for a while*
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:29:10 PM): are you still around?
Her (10/1/2009 9:32:18 PM): i am r u?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:32:24 PM): yep lol
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:32:47 PM): so what's new?
Her (10/1/2009 9:37:11 PM): ah..not too much new...hows the house and all?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:37:48 PM): the house is good, starting to come together. most of the curtains are up and our washer was broken and now fixed...everything is looking pretty good
Her (10/1/2009 9:37:53 PM): (kate, really< why don't one of u just lie with him til he sleeps?)
Her (10/1/2009 9:38:14 PM): ha, i still don't have curtains everyhwere
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:38:23 PM): Because it doesn't work that way, he just pushes and kicks and rolls around
Her (10/1/2009 9:38:42 PM): but why is he doing that?
Her (10/1/2009 9:38:50 PM): i am being devil here.
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:39:08 PM): you think I know? I'm still trying to figure out why he wakes up at 5 in the morning.
Her (10/1/2009 9:39:31 PM): ha, i know..i am not saying it is easy
Her (10/1/2009 9:39:50 PM): i'm just saying it doesn not have to be you against him
Her (10/1/2009 9:39:53 PM): is all
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:40:11 PM): he takes a long time to fall asleep either way...why should we go lie down with him when it doesn't help
Her (10/1/2009 9:44:38 PM): kate..what r u trying to help?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:45:12 PM): nothing, the way you asked me made it sound like you think it's a problem
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:45:22 PM): he just takes a long time to fall asleep
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:45:30 PM): can I ask why you brought this up in the first place?
Her (10/1/2009 9:45:41 PM): well, it seems like it is a problem for you.
Her (10/1/2009 9:45:50 PM): like it is an issue in your day
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:46:02 PM): I never said it was a problem. i told you we were going up to put Josh to bed. that was it
Her (10/1/2009 9:46:32 PM): ok, sorry
Her (10/1/2009 9:46:49 PM): i did not mean to judge.
Her (10/1/2009 9:47:04 PM): just offering a differnt point of view
Her (10/1/2009 9:47:25 PM): hm
Her (10/1/2009 9:47:38 PM): maybe we should chat another time?
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:47:48 PM): well i appreciate it, but we're trying to accept that this is how he is, he's almost always been a tough sleeper, and nothing we ever tried to change did anything for that. so we're sticking with this
Her (10/1/2009 9:47:55 PM): you seem to me a little on edge
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:48:21 PM): no, i felt attacked, when i sat down to catch up with you and i felt you jumped on me about our bedtime routine
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:48:46 PM): we havent talked in weeks and i felt like that came out of the blue.
Her (10/1/2009 9:48:54 PM): kate, i did not mean to jump on you
Her (10/1/2009 9:49:04 PM): really7
Her (10/1/2009 9:49:19 PM): i'm sorry if it came across that way
Her (10/1/2009 9:49:35 PM): your a great mom, and i know you always try to do the best for your son
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:50:20 PM): thanks
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 9:53:08 PM): so i saw you're doing a lot of work with the house, keeping busy
kittycooks7 (10/1/2009 10:08:48 PM): Well, not really sure what to say, but I gotta go...goodnight
I would have felt attacked, too.
You were not complaining about his routine and I think she WAS being judgmental even if she says she wasn't.
Big. I have no advice other than if you still plan to talk to her, maybe make a no kids rule? Then again, as I'm discovering, Liam enters my conversations frequently. Part of being a mom, I guess.
Uh, that is a weird interaction. Why did she start telling you how to put Josh to sleep? yeah, weird.
I confess, I'm grumpy. We were going to go over to a friends house tonight for dinner, because its my birthday tomorrow. But everyone else had plans and wasn't going to come, and now the hostess is coming down with a cold, so its not happening. yay, birthday. And I'm sad for Norah, because this friend is one of our only friends that has a kid, so Norah always has a great time. We need to figure out some alternate fun plan for this weekend. Ideas?
I don't know if we'd have much to talk about if we didn't talk about our kids. LOL
I think she's under a lot of stress lately--she's been jumping on me more about stuff like this. (based on what I see on her FB updates--she rarely actually talks to me anymore)
I used to like and admire her a lot, but I'm starting to dislike her and some of the things she says and does. I don't know what's changed but I'm not liking it! She's my closest thing to a friend right now, so I'm reluctant to let go, but if she keeps up with this, I might just avoid her.
Well there are 3 or 4 within a couple hour drive here, but I don't know if that's more or less than average--Incidentally we only go to one of those zoos--right in our town (well technically the next town over, but just a skip and a jump from where we live)
Good luck, whatever you do--is she good in the car? Josh would be asleep if we drove for over an hour and then his whole day would be messed up!
awwww alisha! I love the 7 month picture!!
I confess Audri and I just shared an apple. She is so good at sharing! It makes me proud! lol
I confess I was slightly offended when my OB asked me if I was going to have my tubes tied during my c/s... especially since we had just talked 2 weeks ago about the Mirena.
