There are people out there (I have met them) who do home school specifically so their children will not be socialized - think the extreme conservative types who make the girls wear long dresses and never cut their hair. I had an encounter with a family like that and the daughter kept looking at me like I was some exotic creature in a zoo! And she was in her early 20s. I also know people whose kids have major social problems who keep their kids out of school so they won't have the problems of dealing with other people. It always makes me think of the joke about they guy who said, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!" and the doctor says, "Don't do this!" I don't think it's good to avoid reality. That said, it is obvious that is not the case in your decision to homeschool and I am stunned your family is questioning you, Bridget. You are giving your kids a better education than the public school system has, and you tried it twice. Trying and finding something better is a good thing, not a bad thing.
