We used to just burn them off the dogs with a lighter. I remember coming back after camping trips and having to do a full body tick search. Found a couple along the underwear line and just pulled those off - it wasn't hard because they were small. But this was Texas and we didn't have any idea about Lyme disease. They are nasty little things.
