Those who have premature babies...NEW FDA MAKENA (progesteron shots) UPDATE

Hi, so as a mom of two preemies Im getting to 17P shots with this pregnancy ( also had them with my 2nd pregnancy). I was called by my specialty pharmacy yesterday saying that as of August 1st they can no longer legally compound the shot for me and I need a new RX for the drug Makena. This is the synthetic drug that does the same thing. The pharmacy told me it would cost $3600 a month without insurance! Now I have lucked out and only need 1 more vial to get me to 36 weeks, so my OB nurse is ordering me the compounded version one next week to get me to that point. Just thought I would give those ladies who may need it the heads up!

Wow that's strange. When the "name brand" came out it was hard to get the compounded version and then easier again. Something new must have come up! I've used these twice now, painful as they are it was worth it!

the FDA changed their stance on it, they now say that Makena is "safer" than the coumpounded verson....I was lucky enough to get my last vial ordered before August 1st., and your right they do hurt, but totally worth it. This is my 2nd pregnancy getting them and both have lasted longer than my 1st pregnancy!
