I was thinking of having my parents and in laws over for dinner and serving fortune cookies for dessert and the fortune inside would say "you're going to be a grandparent- July 2013". But my moms not really into that kinda cutesy stuff so I'm really not sure.
Im going to be telling everyone on christmas with ds wearing a t-shirt that says big brother. Nothing too creative.
Do you have a sibling? For our 4th, I had my sister call my parents and say they were going to be grandparents again. She isn't married and has no intention for kids so it would have been very unexpected. It was pretty funny. I've also had everyone open baby clothes or a sonogram pic. I'm not very creative either.
ETA: a picture frame that is obviously for a grandchild's pic would be good.
MIL already has 2 grand kids, my dd and BIL's son (5months old) so I want to be sure she realizes that a 3rd grand kid is coming.
The only thing I can think of is to put a framed ultrasound pic and wrap it up for her...and maybe put "due date July 2013" on it.
I'm thinking about doing a gift for the grandparents from the new baby :)
I saw on Pinterest: a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce with "We're" taped to it so it says "We're Prego" -- you could wrap that up for them?
The picture frame or u/s pic is a good idea too. Maybe if you like to bake, you could make cookies or cupcakes and put pink and blue candies on top, or some sort of little cake topper that represents a baby?
Or you could make t-shirts that say "Grandma of 3" and "Grandpa of 3"?
Good luck! We just went with the Big Brother t-shirt since we didn't have much time to prepare. But that's because I can't keep a secret
I read online about someone taking a family picture and putting a note on it that says "this is actually a family of four". Makes 'em guess a little. I thought about doing that as we just got a family photo taken but totally told my mom last night when she was here for dinner :eyeroll: whoops!
Ooooo those are some good ideas!!!!
I love pintrest lol
What about an ornament on the tree with your ultrasound pic (when you get one)? Or a baby shoe ornament?
I told DH about the jar of prego idea and he like it.
I love these ideas, and I love Pinterest! I also saw a pick of everyone in the family's shoes lined up with a pair of booties that says "our house is growing by two feet!" I thought it was clever...
i had everyone open up an u/s pic that DS gave them while he wore his "Only child, expiring June 2013" shirt a friend made. It was a hit!
good luck. I'm sure whatever you do will be a hit. :winks:
Butting in here, but when we announced our first, I gave boxes with "it's a girl" helium balloons in them, wrapped up as a gift. When they were opened the balloons popped out.
I can't figure out what to search for on Pinterest to get more ideas.
I really like the balloon idea!!
Hi, new here, If we make it to Christmas, which will be 12 weeks, I plan to have presents for my mom, brother, and sister in law that say Grandma/uncle/aunt since 2013. This will be the first grandchild for my mom and niece or nephew for my brother and his wife, so I want it to be a big surprise. Haven't figured out how to tell my best friend yet, she keeps pestering us to find out if we are pregnant yet.
a friend of mine put a bib around a bottle of champagne.....! let us know what you decide x
We made up on the computer a gift certificate that said "good for one grandchild", deliverable July 1st, expires last day of July, cannot guarantee delivery time or gender, etc. we made it look like a real gift certificate with a border etc. we presented it as a gift and was a lot of fun. mil was really excited and stared crying saying thank you which was really appreciated since a. This is grandchild number 12 and b. that is definitely not how my side will react
I think we have decided to get a mylar balloon that says something like "we're expecting" and put it in a box for MIL to open.
We have also decided to do this on DH's birthday dinner (a couple days before Xmas) since this will be my nephews first Xmas and we don't want to take the spotlight away from him.
