I am a little confused... I went to the ob/gyn yesterday for an ultrasound. I have a cyst ob my left ovary. In the ultrasound the tech said my endometrium is of normal thickness... but I think it should be thinning out by now, since I am due in four days. Also, my breasts DON'T hurt like they usually do before every period and ummm... my bowel habits are a bit off. I took the test that lets you find out '6 days sooner', and it was negative. Any thoughts?
Your lining builds throughout your cycle - it's when you get your period that your lining thins out due to bleeding. It's at its thickest point just before your period starts. What is it that makes you feel that you might be pregnant? Breast pain can be a symptom of either pregnancy or of your period.
If you get a negative on a pregnancy test and your period isn't due yet, it's really just a matter of wait and see. Look at the package and read the percent accuracy of the test based on when your period is due - I am always a little shocked at what a small chance there is at getting a positive result early. I can't remember the numbers, but really it's much more accurate if you wait until you are due. So it's entirely possible to get a negative four days out and still be pregnant.
Actually, I read that your endometrium starts thinning out on the 24-25th day (of a 28 day cycle), if youre going to get your period. It stays thicker if youre pg... I usually have very sore breasts by now, if I am going to menstruate... and they don't hurt at all.
That's not what I have read, but from what you are saying, they said it was "normal" - do you know that it is the same thickness as it would have been earlier in your cycle? What did it measure a few days ago? You seem to be operating on the assumption that it is not thinner than it was at an earlier point, but you only had one ultrasound, right?
I certainly wouldn't assume I was pregnant from the doctor telling me I had normal endometrium. But of course, you could very well be pregnant. I just wouldn't use that fact to diagnose it. As for breast pain - in five years of trying, I've been all over the map. I place absolutely no stock in that as an indicator of pregnancy, either having it or not having it.
My endometrium was 4mm when my doctor measured it this month, and he told me that was thinner than desirable for pregnancy, but that he has had patients with a thinner lining go on to have a successful pregnancy.
A cyst would be normal at this point since it means you ovulated, if I am understanding things correctly. It will stay around for a bit if you are pregnant until the placenta is working. If you are not pregnant the cyst will resolve much sooner. Having a normal lining at this point is a good thing since it means that if you were pregnant there is sufficient lining to support pregnancy. Sore breasts are due to progesterone so I would think that if you normally get sore breasts after ovulation you'd be even more likely to have sore breasts during pregnancy (always my case).
At this point, I'm with Gwenn. What you have going on could mean nothing or it could mean that you a pregnant. It's too early to tell with any home pregnancy test although some women to report positive tests even at 6 days after ovulation.

Gwenn, I am not exactly sure what it was compared to, since it was my only ultrasound. It was the tech saying my endometrium looked normal size, so I am not sure what she meant... and I am just comparing my lack of breast soreness to the fact that I have always HAD breast soreness. JJ, I ovulated around the 14th and still have the cyst now. Yes, after the initial shock of being pregnant, we would be thrilled.
Normal means you are healthy and if you were to get pregnant, it is where it needs to be to sustain pregnancy. That's definitely a good thing. Without measurements over time you don't know if it was thinner, thicker, or the same size as a few days ago.

Well ladies, I woke up today and still no period. However, I do have come cramping so I will wait til tomorrow to see.
