We want to start teaching DD about tithing and the value of money as quickly as we can. She is currently 17 months old. The idea is to get her three different piggy banks - one labeled for her, one for savings, and one for tithing. We will give her 10 dimes each week and have her put 8 in her bank, 1 in savings (10%), and one in tithing (10%).
Anyone do something similar? At what age did you start?
There are actually cute coin banks that are all in one, one side the piggy, one the church and one the savings... I think Dave Ramsey or crown financial ministries has them...
We have always talked about it with our girls, Tristyn has just really caught on in the last year or so, she is 4 now... Her Sunday school class actually passes the plate so she has her own offering time, it's cute...
We don't give her money though she has to earn it, I have a list (very simple) of jobs she can do for me to make money... ( thinks like putting away all the clean silver wear, washing windows, folding towels, helping clean out the car) we usually pay her a quarter for each job... Some weeks she's way into it others not so much and then she has no money by her own choice.
That sounds likes a great bank for the kids.
We haven't done tithing with the kids yet because they have no concept of what money really even is. With how quickly these kids grow up, though, that could change next week.

Once our oldest was starting to want to earn money to buy things, we started having her figure out tithing and pay that before she could spend any money she earned. I guess she was around 5 or 6. She is 8 now and still doesn't get an allowance or anything, but will at times do extra chores to earn some money for something particular she wants to buy. We don't make our children pay tithing on money they receive as gifts, though. It's just a personal choice.
Thanks for posting this. We haven't started anything like that yet with our boys but at some point probably will. It's nice to see what different people do!

DS has the ABC Learning Bank and got it just recently at 3 1/2 years old. He does not get a regular allowance, however, we give him $$ for chores, etc. We always give him 3 coins of equal value and he puts one in each. He understands what each letter is for. Whatever he collects in the "giving bank", he takes to church. At our church, they collect offerings from kids in the 3 year old class and up (3 yo class are kids who are 3 by Sept 1).
DS gets the logic of what the $$ is for and he also understands some basic value of the coins (e.g. he knows that he needs 5 quarters to buy a Hot Wheel car). At this point he really does not understand that 4 quarters make a dollar or how to combine other coins to make a quarter. He also does not understand the % yet so that is why we only split it 3 even ways. We will eventually address that as he learns to understand fractions, etc.
My DD is 19 months old and she does not get any of that. She likes to put money in a piggy bank but I do not think that she thinks of it any different than a shape sorter toy.
