Secular Confessions

I envy your IT Jennifer. That's one of the difficult parts of working for Arts & Sciences...whatever the faculty wants, they get. And we're expected to support it. Even if we've never laid eyes on it before in our lives. That itself doesn't really bother me because I get to play with new toys all the time...but the level of expectation...like they bring in a new HTC phone and want me to configure it to the Exchange account when I've never even seen that HTC before-and they just knock on our door. They don't even give me a heads up that they're coming, so I can't research it before hand. It's not rocket science, but every smart phone is different.

Well...we aren't such a huge fan of our IT mostly because we have a lot of specialty programs being library and av department. I don't have to deal so much but the av guys sure do! They do a lot of the video conference stuff and taping and helping docs put together pp presentations (least that is what I know about....it's weird as they are in my department but the library doesn't know most of the av stuff and they certainly don't know ours).

But really even our IT's hands are pretty tied...we are part of the health system so sort of separate but in many ways not from the big parent organization. Basically what they say there, goes whether we like it or not. And they are not fast to IT change. We are still using Windows XP and Office 2003.....though I have heard that those will be changing in the next year or two.
And the privacy security thing is soooo huge. I swear that I have to jump through more hoops and security questions to access my work email from off campus than I do online banks!

I confess....I slept awful last night and today my one eyelid is slightly swollen and really bugging me.

Jennifer, I hope you get some sleep and your eyelid gets better soon. If it's any consolation, I spent the last 2 weeks of July with a twitching eyelid because I wasn't getting enough sleep at the time.

I cannot believe the looting that is going on in London. Someone mentioned on another site that there was an interview with an old man whose house was burned to the ground by the rioters and it burned all his family heirlooms that had survived through both world wars. Hearing stuff like that makes me want to take a baseball bat out and riot against the rioters.

So this morning Josh woke up at 5:30! FIVE THIRTY! Saying he was oh so hungry....we asked him to please wait until 6 (a rule we've been trying to enforce for I don't even know how long, but he never looks at his clock before he comes running out, and he throws a huge fit when we ask him to go back to his room until 6), but anyway, after he played noisily until about 5:50 so I went down with him and asked what he wanted to eat. He said "Oh, I can wait. I want to watch something." :headbang:

Lol. Gotta love kids, right? Cash started our day at 4 today! It's been a long day already!

Jennifer-They're replacing XP and 03 soon because Microsoft won't be supporting them any more. They'll no longer issue updates for XP in April 2014. Office 2003 is still supported (with no end date that I'm aware of) but it's working less and less friendly with things like Exchange. I have 1 user on Exchange using Outlook 2003 and it was a pita to work out. Any day I expect it to flake, and Cornell officially doesn't support it at all.

:( I wouldn't like being woke up that early either. Thankfully, Rich is an early morning riser so when Conner gets up that early Rich takes care of him.

DH usually wakes up around 6 and goes downstairs, and Josh must be waking around that time too because he gets up a few minutes after that and also goes downstairs. DH wakes up at 6 almost every day and can't get back to sleep even though he's still tired so I try to let him sleep on the days when I do happen to wake up before him.

I remember one winter Josh had a phase where he woke up at 3 a.m. and wouldn't go back to sleep until his nap around 10...that was grueling especially being winter, dark and cold.

Bobbie was telling me that she submitted some photos that Jesi helped her take to an alternative beauty web site. I vaguely paid attention but she sent a message saying that they accepted her. She needs to verify her age and fill out a W9 and stuff and I guess make an appointment with their photographer in NYC. No fee for Bobbie, so it appeared to be legit...and I was a little excited for her. Some good news, right?

Um, no. I googled Suicide Girls. It's bondage and soft core porn and I don't know what all. Tell me she didn't know this? WTF???!!!! :headbang:

I think that it's better today. But dang was that irritating yesterday. I'm not all that into plastic surgery but I think that if I ever get those baggy eyelids you see on some older people, I just might get that done so it doesn't drive me insane.

I was just seeing it on the news. Normally it would be a huge story here but I think that it took a backseat to the stock market freaking out. I was wondering if any of that was near you.
I fully believe in standing up for your rights (not sure what the riots are about) BUT in a peaceful mannor and not destroying innocent peoples property or hurting others.

Chrissy, umm maybe she didn't realize what the site really was?

Not really that close to us, but there was a group in Leeds which is about 10 miles out from where I live that was doing similar things. I think they'll have copycat hooligans doing similar things until the police properly crack down on them. They are way too soft on crime here in the UK.

Yeah I was pretty proud of WI when all the protests were going on in Madison dealing with governor a-hole as he's referred to at home....and trying to stand up for teachers and unions. Some of the recall elections have started for our state congress.....and there is going to be one for governor ahole come Jan. 2012.

Have you seen the photos she took Chrissy? I took a look at the website and looked them up on wikipedia. They are apparently mainly nudes but some are 40's-50's pinup style pics. (I can't look at the pics without signing up but found that info on wikipedia)


We had an amazing swim lesson today. He went in in a bubble on his back and a noodle under his arms and swam by himself for almost the whole half hour. The teacher was getting the other kids to practice jumping in the pool but since we were having such success swimming, we didn't push the issue.

Usually he wants to leave early but he had to pee about 5 minutes before the class was over and when we were done he was ready to go back in and I said class was just about over. He said "Wow, I just started and it's over already?"

I am so proud!

Go Josh! And Go Kate for keeping at trying the swimming lesson with him!

And you're right, Bobbie would get to control the set. I wrote her and she was fully aware that they'd be nudes :shock: She's 18 and morally I don't object to Playboy, so how can I dissuade her from this? *gulp* I only told her to research and see if there are other options out there because the SG have a reputation for having a bit of an unfair contract (according to the Googles).

I'm back from my lunch interview and all I can say is....:hooray::hooray::hooray::hooray: I haven't laughed so hard in such a long time. It started out with them nearly running me over (not really) when they were picking me up. The girl did a u-turn and came right up on the curb in front of me. From there on out it was jokes and hijinks amongst the 3 of them...really quite fun. I was even witty myself too. :P It was great. Of course, now I really, really want the job but if not at least I had a good time. I really needed that.

Glad you had a good interview! I'd be uncomfortable at a lunch interview. I don't like to be scrutinized when I'm eating. LOL

I didn't feel like they were scrutinizing me at all. It was like having lunch with friends. We really got on well. Of course there was some talk about work, but it was just...natural. You can tell they're really close and have a lot of fun together. The two got a brief chance to talk to me about Janet (who would be my boss). The guy started out with, "Since Janet isn't here we can tell you what we really think of her..." and he had a twinkle in his eye. He said in all seriousness she's great.

Ah, that's good. I'm glad you got along so well with them.

My hungry monster is knocking at the door right now. My plan is to plan on eating something light every hour to make it through the next few days. This weekend, my high school BFF is flying into LA w/ her live-in beau (whom I can't believe I haven't met yet)and I hope I can still manage not to overdo it on the munching. We're driving down & staying @ her mom's, and her mom'll be away. so it will be just like when we were teens. I always loved her mom's house, so cozy and lavish - to me - at the same time. only thing I'm worried about is bodhi with the pool, but at the same time, am hoping for good hot Valley weather, so I can take him for a swim.

Shrimp on a kale salad, btw, not a winner. :ohno:

I need some serious help controlling what I eat again. I had a giant burger for lunch. You might remember our deal is after swimming he picks where we eat. And well if we go out to eat I'm not going to get a salad.

I made a cucumber avocado soup for dinner which I'm having soon but I just made home made mac and cheese and I have to try it to make sure it's okay, right? :rolleyes:
