I feel the same way about most doctor's. I do TONS of research just to find a specialist that I or DH might see once just because I don't like to put up dumb doctors. I am very cynical and mistrusting of them. Who would prescribe a BFing mom musle relaxants? Very strange :eyebrow:.
Chrissy, I hope everything goes smoothly and that it doesn't rain just so you won't have to think about the possibility of limiting your guests. I remember my mom being so stressed out about my older brother's graduation. At first he wasn't going to graduate because he flunked a class due to being late every day for, get this, having to poop in the morning. He didn't want to poop at school so he would stay at home an extra 30 minutes to poop on a "comfortable" toilet :eyeroll:. My brother is a character LOL. The teacher said he could make up what he missed even though it was against the rules for him to even pass the class if he was absent more than 9 days or late more than 20 times, I think he was late like 34 times due to having to poop. This class was only for one semester too. He had to go to school on Saturdays to make it up. We also had an issue with seating at his graduation as well and my mom was so stressed about all of this and other things dealing with his graduating that she broke out in hives and went on an anti-anxiety medication. It didn't bother my brother though, he figured he loved high school anyway and would enjoy a fifth year and he would have another year to improve his football stats. I could tell my mom fought the urge to punch him a few times. She even said this to him. My mom has a habit of speaking violently, she said she wanted to punch him in the eye. He just laughed though because she has always talked like that. After he finally got to graduate, my mom didn't even throw a party or BBQ or anything and told him to go hang with his friends. She was much more excited about my graduation the next year and I made sure not to give her any trouble after her having to deal with my brother.

omg--- I snorted!! I can totally empathize with your mom. On occasion I've threatened to 'beat someones ass' but I have yet to do it. Not my kids--but Rich's or maybe the neighbors that used to drive me nuts. :P
As for the poop issue-Rich once lost a job because of it. He will not-and never has-gone on a 'stranger's' toilet. He simply won't do it. As it happened, the urge struck as he was going to work at a new job where they took the probation period seriously. Rather than making an exception this one time, he turned around and went home. When he tried to clock in 20 minutes late, they let him go. It was a really good paying job that we desperately needed at the time too. I was pregnant with Sydney and had just quit my job. God that sucked.
Did you manage to leave with any useful information Bridget??? Why is it that doctors always think that pain meds are the answer to everything :eyeroll:
That is a really sweet story
I'm glad you got it all figured out, I'm sorry you had to go through such frustration though :(
Was that just a general doc? Could it have been she was typing into an electronic medical record? I know mine do that now, they will be typing stuff in as they are talking with me. I would hope not webmd though.....I strongly dislike that site and would hope that she was at least using something good like up to date or isabel....there are some really great medical tools/resources available. I certainly wouldn't expect a doc (especially a general one) to know everything off the top of their head...their textbooks are huge. I just think that in the past they would leave the room and look up stuff in their books or consult with another doc and now the tools are electronic and can be used at the point of care.
Of course she could have just been a not so great doctor too.
If the problem is tightness, could you try some massage therapy for a while and see if that helps? If that works, great but otherwise after that I would see a neurologist. I can see a muscle relaxer but not for someone like you that is nursing and cosleeping. It's just too bad that in most cases that muscle relaxer would be under insurance but something that would be beneficial like massager therapy most often isn't. :(
Our dr's office has a total electronic records system so the nurse, then dr, will enter your symptoms. The computer program does prompt them to ask additional questions based on your answers. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I know my kid's dr is competent and I don't think the computer system has changed how he dx's anything, but it kinda does make him appear more dimwitted than he is because he's obviously reading off the computer. It's not his fault-it's the hospital group's policy. I'm thankful that we knew him before, because I'm not sure I would have been impressed with him if I was just meeting him now.
I think that was part of the federal health care thing was a huge push for emr's. Personally I like them a lot. I know that something isn't dependent upon reading someone's crummy handwritting. And I really like that when you stay within a healthcare system that has emr's, it's a big money saver. Like I had almost 2K of bloodwork done say in Feb this year. Well in March I was back at the doc needing the adoption forms filled out.....one thing required was bloodwork. Since I just had a cbc and all that, she would just check the system and not repeat those. The only one I needed that I hadn't gotten in Feb was an HIV test. In the past they would have just repeated everything. It's also great that if I was in the OR on the table and they needed something off my record, boom just pull it up on the computer instead of searching files and having to have someone coming in and out of the room.
But it definitely has changed the way appointments feel and the flow of them. Especially when you are a brand new patient.
And yeah they do ask some questions that make you go Hmmm? Like I always get asked if I feel safe at home...even if I'm there for a heel spur. LOL It's just something that gets asked of women at appts. But it does feel weird to be asked that....especially since half the providers I see, I work with doing research and serving on committees.
That said, docs are not gods for sure and they are just human. There is no way that they can know everything....I mean I consider my library small and still we have a couple thousand books and get over a hundred journals in print (and have access to over 5,000 journals electronically). I have worked with two different health system libraries.....and both places I have worked on urgent patient care requests where the doc is requesting info on a patient that is coming in that day or having surgery the next morning. I personally much prefer the doc who comes into the library for info....than one who pretends to know everything....especially since medical knowledge and practice can change rather quickly sometimes.
Speaking of work....I really love my job BUT it's a Friday in the summer and the sun is out and it's supposed to be in the 70's today after like 10 days of rain and clouds. I have a major case of weekend-itis! We're going to grill out tonight...chicken for me and Italians for DH (I HATE sausage.....kind of unheard of in the land of brats and beer and I don't like either....well at least I like cheese!)
Oh and I heard that the local strawberries are in. OMG I just LOVE local strawberries.....I hope that my favorite grower still has some left on the stand by the time I get there after work.
ita with you Jennifer. There are far more perks to the computerized system than there are drawbacks.
I'm not a fan of sausage or beer either. Rich loves sausages though, so we do have them about once a month. Owego just had its annual Strawberry Fest last Saturday. The kids went, but I didn't. I didn't have time :( The girls (er, Jesi) even had Conner down there for a couple hours. When we were driving through town last night he asked where the festival went!
Late last night he said he loved me out of the blue. omg-did I ever need the hear that? I honestly don't know what I'd do without him because I get so worked up and stressed, then he'll just take it all away with that sweet little phrase.
N's pediatrician does everything on a laptop now as well, I like it in the sense that I don't have to repeat every.single.little.thing between the nurse and his pediatrician. Plus all the info from the previous appoitments is right there at easy access which with as much as we go to the doctor is helpful
I don't know if I mentioned it, but N has to have an U/S done on his intestines on Tuesday. If its positive for what they are looking for he is going to have to have surgery :( If its negative than they are doing an upper GI and we will be talking to a GI specialist to find out why he is projectile vomiting all.the.freaking.time :headbang: My poor baby has been through SO many procedures already I feel so bad for him :ohno:
:ohno: Oh no poor little Nolan! I hope that they figure out what it is soon and that it's something easy to fix.
 To Conner.
Oh no, I hope he doesn't need surgery :(
:hugs: I have been thinking about you.
You know, our new pedi didn't even look at the computer. He sat and talked to me eye to eye unless he was examining Sawyer. But that again I guess he wasn't diagnosing anything.
Jennifer, she did suggest physical therapy, I think. Because she actually kept calling it "behavioral therapy". :eyeroll: I asked her is she would write me a referral for it because I think that's the only way I have a chance at getting it covered. She also wondered aloud if her sister would massage me since "she's not a pro but really, really good at it." :eyebrow: Seriously, this woman was a trip. She never wrote the referral according to the nurse and then she was on the phone and I didn't have time to wait so I just left. If it's just a tension headache, I will work that out on my own.
Here's an example of her line of questioning. How many siblings do you have? How old are they? Are they married? Do they have any children?
And then as follow ups in regard to my mom's breast cancer (which is obviously relevant to my health) Was that hard for you? Does your dad live alone now? Do you spend time with him? And when I answered yes, a lot she then asked, "Is your husband ok with that? Do they get along?
Tell me those aren't some crazy weird questions!! My brother said he thinks she killed the real dr and took her place and why she did it was the only thing left to discuss.
Your brother is hilarious !! And those are weird questions.
My pedi also has the little laptops, but she mentions that she will be using them for our appointment and actually does talk to us before our appointments without typing anything just to get a history on what has been going on. She is very personable, as is our PCP for DH and I. He has a computer too but is not always on it or looking to answer questions it throws out to us. But like I said, I do TONS of research on doctors and get lots and lots of opinions online and IRL from friends and co-workers about the doctor, the hospital, parking (as I will not go to a physician where I have to pay to park, it is one of my criteria), and a lot of others before I will even go and interview a doctor. I feel I have done really well in picking doctors. All my friends with kids now go to our pedi and they love her as well and she has had to add on new staff (I take credit for her great busines LOL). She has a new doctor on staff now and really I don't like him that much but my aunt loves him, I think only because he is very good looking.
Smply, I also hope your DS doesn't need surgery. I would be a wreck. Ky almost had to have a surgery when he was 10 months and I was kind of freaking out just at the thought of it.
Erin
That is weird Bridget! Do you think she was trying to figure out if you're overstressed or something?
I was also thinking she was trying to get a sense of how much stress was in your life.
Guys, my mom just emailed me and mentioned oh-so-casually that her sister (my closest aunt) has a mass in her breast and is going in to see the surgeon next week.
Thanks ladies! It just feels like one thing after another for my little man. In a way I would just be relieved to figure out what is going on with him. They are worried about malnourishment at this point. His pedi was very upset about his weight (10lbs1oz) He's barely gaining an ounce a week :( He already has to have surgery for his undescended testicle come September so this is just adding to my already ridiculous stress level :ohno: I guess its all just part of being a mommy right??
Bridget- sounds like the perfect excuse to get DBF to give you a neck rub :)
Thank you. I hope they can find some answers for your little guy.
At this point, that's all I know. My aunt has a lot of health issues, though. She is obese and has diabetes, and she has reduced kidney function because of some complications after an infection last year. I don't know how well her body can fight off something like this.
Gwenn I really hope it is benign (sp?) :hugs:
Thanks Chrissy and you are right. I never knew so much love existed until I had him, its kind of crazy
Mandy, I hope your aunt is OK!
Bridget, those were definitely weird questions. Did you ask her why she was asking those types of questions? Sounds like maybe she was trying to be an armchair pyschologist or something.
Smplyme89, I'm so sorry for all your stress. Motherhood is so very hard in that respect.
I played "Rockets" today with Travis, which consisted of him building a rocket out of Lego and flying it around the room making fart noies....he said it was very smelly...lol....life with 3 boys...is...so...smelly! LOL
I do hope she's ok. :(
Bridget-those questions are bizarre...even if you went to therapy, just the context of the way she presented those questions was weird to me. Golly!
Smplyme (I don't know your real name) I hope everything is okay with Nolan.
Mandy I hope your aunt is okay :(
:hi: mine's Kate.
:hi: I'm Jennifer
So DH and I were talking names...well I was mostly talking names and he goes along with it. We are set on boy name but not on girl name. I liked Violet...he says no, sounds like violent. Ok fine. So one we both liked was Holly and were talking about middle names and I suggested Holly Violet....and gives me this look and was like seriously Holy Violent Sch..... And too bad a couple that I liked growing up just don't work with my last name now. Like Samantha (try Sam with my last name) or Sasha...even worse with our last name.
Well I'm not going to work too hard on middle names because we might use the middle name the birth parents suggest if they want to help with naming. The idea of giving up total control over naming was a hard one for me but as long as we get first name, we are open to middle names.
Boy name has always been and still is Theodore.
But I really think that we will be matched with a girl.....
Jennifer, I always thought I'd have a girl and name her Flannery (I guess it's a good thing I had 2 boys since DH says that name would have gotten "Fanny" which is not another word for bum here, but a euphemism for the vagina....lol)
Oh, since we're saying names, I'm Ashley but most call me AmeriAsh around here since the10eels is also Ashley! :)
