Orajel and Choking?

For the past 3 nights our little man has been waking up during the night screaming bloody murder. First I thought that he may not be getting enough food, but after talking to several people, I believe he may be teething. Everybody tells me to give him Tylenol and Orajel, but the nurse at my pediatrician's office advised me that they don't recommend it anymore because of a potential choking hazard. I don't know what to do, I need to get sleep and I want to relieve his pain. My gut instinct tells me to go with what numerous parents have told me is the best remedy, orajel. My husband is worried. Has anybody have had bad experiences with orajel?

I have read that if you use too much Orajel, it can interfere with Baby's swallowing ability. We use Hyland's Teething Tablets and Tylenol when it's really uncomfortable.

He will turn 4 months next Thursday.

I thought you weren't supposed to use tylenol/motrin before 4-6 months. Orajel is a big no-no.

He get's Infant's Tylenol. The doctor recommended it after his first round of shots.

Tylenol or Motrin shouldn't really be used less than 6 months of age unless authorized by a doctor, which is sounds like you were. (it says that on the package)

The labeling for orajel says 4 months and older..
Andrew would get really fussy with orajel since he couldn't feel much with it, we only tried it a couple times..

We only use Hyland Teething tablets now.. have you tried them? you can find them at Randalls (safeway) or Walgreens.

Yes, the doctor okayed the use of Tylenol. I think I'll go and get some of the Hyland's Teething tablets tonight. Can't hurt...

We always used the teething tablets, and tylenol. I've never used orajel on Hayden, just because I know I hate the way it makes my mouth feel, so why would he like it any better????

let us know how it goes.. With Andrew is made a huge difference.. it will make them sleepy if they have been really fussy or iritable..

Andrew thinks that they are candy now.. lol..

We use Hylands too. The baby orajel is nasty, my dd hates it! I saw her face and put some in my mouth and was like, Oh mi gosh! No wonder she made that face! The Hylands go over much better in our home.

Do they sell Hylands at stores like babies r us and target? I've never seen them?

You can get them at Walmart too. I use orajel as Rory loves it and it is the only thing that stops his teething pain immediately. I used TYlanol/Motrin and teething tabs and he still was in pain. Oragel worked. I just used a TINY bit.

My pedi said that baby orajel should be banned!! We use tylenol and cold teethers here. Haven't tried the Hylands tablets yet but I will if we need them. She has 5 teeth so far but acts like she may be getting a molar soon.

Caleb's used orajel with no problems what so ever.. but after hearing some of the warnings i just give him Tylenol
