I know this is a day late, but happy BELATED birthday Sarah. Glad to hear you and Lucea had a good b-day dinner.

As far as pics, I'm not shying away from posting them. If his SSN or address was attached to the pic, well that would be another story. But, this is the way I look at it. This is a stretch, but say someone from Baby Talk mag came up to me and ask to publish a pic of DS. Well, I'd more than likely say yes. Then, there would be his pic for the world to see and do with whatever they want. So, this issue hasn't really phased me any except that it's ridiculous how grown people can act like such children. Honestly, I just wanna say to them...get a life already!!!!

Hi guys -

I haven't posted in this thread in a LONG time (remember way back with the book club discussion?? years ago it seems), but it's kind of a slow day at work and thought I'd pop in. I always snoop around in here every once in awhile though. So...

Happy Birthday Sarah! I'd do anything to be 28 again - when I was 28 I was living in the big city, planning a wedding, smoking and drinking with my girlfriends, having sex w/ my fiance every friggin night.... !!! Man, those were the days.

A side note about the posting pics issue: You know, APA is a huge reason why I even remember to take time out of the day to snap photos of Baby Lia. I see all your beautiful babes' pix and I say to myself, "Gosh, I remember when Lia did something like that ... wish I remembered to capture that moment." I am so terrible at remembering to take photos of her, and here she is changing every day right before my eyes. And why take photos if I'm not gonna show them off?? Someone bug the heck out of me to remember to take more pics of her, and make me post them up!!

I'm constantly taking pictures of Caleb too, Pam. He's just so cute that I can't help it. And he loves having his picture taken. Whenever I get the camera out and he sees it, he ALWAYS gets a huge grin on his face. It's so cute!!!!

I've been thinking about the whole picture posting thing, and I really want to share my pics with you all... soooo... I'm going to add a pic back to my siggy and join in the POTW again! :D

Happy birthday (belated) Sarah!!

Yay Aly, can't wait to see more pics of Caleb. I'm glad you reconsidered.

I cannot wait until we get rid of dial-up and are set up with high-speed internet. DH says we'll do it sometime in Oct. Then I can participate in POTW...well, I could do it now, but I want to view all the other pics too to be fair, and right now it takes too long to download to my computer. I have a million pics of DD and while I've shared a few here and there, I'd like to do so more regularly.

I love pic of the week... once our post-move lives are back to normal, I'll be able to download the billion and two pics on the digital and maybe even go get the "real" photos developed.

Right now, all the ones on my computer are about 700 years old!

My philosophy is that whenever we go out, anyone could take her picture. And in fact, when we were living in Hawaii, the Japanese tourists would constantly be taking her pic. So she's out there. Cannot control it.

See, all the APA babies are so cute - everyone wants to share them! :)

I LOVE that pic of Caleb.

We got Marissa a digital camera for her birthday. Sounds wierd right? A 5 year old as a digital. BUT....it was made by Fisher Price and its pink. Its so cool. Has a little screen to view the pics. It holds over 60 pics and you can use the USB and put them on the computer. I kid you not, she got the thing Mon morning and she has about 250 pics already!!  But not only that, sinec we installed the software, whenever I put my memory card in it opens her software. SO I have to figure out how to put my pics in my folder that I already have. I have got to learn this computer stuff faster. I have about 30 pics on my disk that are GREAT and I cant show them off. PLUS, I fianlly have the family room done, and I want to show you guys. We painted all the paneling. It looks great!!

Aly, congrats. You're a HOMEOWNER now...how exciting. Once you get all moved in and settled, wouldn't that be awesome? If we all lived closer, we could've come help you decorate (well, I wouldn't be much help in that area...I'm not the creative type when it comes to stuff like that...but I can organize stuff like none other :) ).

Claudia, I think it's funny that you were off because of the "hurricane" So, what'd ya do...go shopping? Speaking of which, I know that stuff is moving our way and will be here tomorrow night and into Friday. But, you would've thought it was here today. Yikes, it was NASTY here in Raleigh this afternoon into this evening. Wouldn't you know, I had dinner plans with some of my girlfriends tonight (I never do that...this is one of the first in many months) and it was raining so hard this afternoon that we almost cancelled. Then, it cleared up nicely so we did dinner and when we left the restaurant...boy were we in for it. I was literally praying as I was driving home about 1/2 hr ago. Could hardly see the road it was raining so hard.

Aly - Hooray on the house! Yeah, packing sucks, but it'll be over soon, plus now I'll bet there is an added excitement to it because you are moving into your own house! If you are comfy - pics are good!

So my husband has a wild hair you know where suddenly to move into the city... he wants to live in an apartment right in downtown Seattle. I think it sounds cool, but I always envisioned Stella living somewhere that she saw trees when she looked out the window in the morning...

Any of you girls live right in a city?

geebee
08-31-2006, 10:16 AM
Not me .... 20 miles outside DC, though I used to live right downtown.

My best friend is still in city. We met at the Nat'l Zoo some weekends ago. It took me forever to get Lia ready, drive through traffic, then find parking. My best friend just walked down the street. I miss city living. There are pros and cons to everything I guess.

YellowRose
08-31-2006, 10:29 AM
Right now we live right in the city, well, it's a suburb of Chicago, but it's still pretty big. To be honest, I hate it! We live right on a busy road and I hate always hearing traffic driving by my apartment. I really don't like the hustle and bustle of city life either. When I was younger we lived way out practically in the middle of no where. The town was so small, if you blinked while driving through it, you'd miss it. I don't exactly like that either. I'd like to live in a small town, but not too small.

I do like where our house is located. Just outside the city limits, in a quiet neighborhood and not on a busy road. We have a good size backyard too, so Caleb will have plenty of room to run around!

I'm pooped.

My husband left on his trip to Japan with his dad today so C and I are home alone until Sunday. That's when I fly out to my mom's house. I ordered pizza, breadsticks and a Pepsi for dinner so I don't have to cook while he's gone! It should last me until Sunday. :D

I went and picked up C's 6 month portraits from Sears today. They're so cute!!

Okay, I'll pay 20 bucks to whoever is willing to call my soon to be ex-stepmom and tell her that she is a freakin' pathetic idiot. I can't stand that woman. She's a raging alcoholic and the most annoying person I've ever met. And she thinks she is going to actually get to hold Caiden. I DON'T THINK SO! My dad already told me that he would run interference and keep her paws off of him.

I had to change my flight plans b/c my dad was going to be out of town one of the days I had scheduled to visit him. I flip-flopped my trip and picked new flying days. She called me constantly for 3 days to get my new flight plan info so she could change my tickets. I found out today she never changed them... so really I was supposed to have flown out of town today. Luckily South West is so easy to work with. When I called my Dad to tell him he just said not to ever trust her b/c she's drunk all the time and never follows through with anything. Ugh.

Miss Holly - you must vent to me tomorrow at the zoo... I have had my experiences with drunken in-laws!

Stash - I have never lived in Seattle the city before. The thing is, my husband thinks that we'll be able to get a Frasier-esque apartment on our Roseanne-esque income and he is going to soon find out that it won't happen. Plus with parking and everything. I am not crazy about our current apartment, but I am not too keen on going back into the city.

BUT it would put me SOOO close to the arts, which is a huge plus. If I could get somewhere near Volunteer park (I am not sure which section of the city that is - on 15th ave) or U district that might cool. I have a great fondness for cities, but living in one... not so sure about that.

David just took Stella away from the fireplace and told her not to do that in Norwegian and it sounded like he said "nie you're farley. Nie you're farley."

Norwegian is a funny language sometimes.

What is it with babies and fireplaces? Ours is a magnet for C too. I covered up the bricks on the floor with a blanket b/c they are raised a couple inches off the ground. It's just a disaster waiting to happen over there.

Thanks ladies. Yeah, I plan on sticking to his schedule. It's so funny...we just have such a great set-up here for him, I feel like. He eats some solids about 6:30pm or so, then it's off to the bath. After his bath, we give him a bottle of EBM (because he gets too chilled on the boob and goes right to sleep) and put him in his crib and he's usually out before long (no fussing or crying usually). In his room, we have window treatments that has it nice and dark and cozy, he's got a lullaby CD playing in there, and a night light (so we can peak at him). Although that's great and works wonderfully for us, I hope he's not so hooked on that setup that he won't want to sleep in his pack n' play. Oh, and there's an awesome mural that he can see from his crib. So, he'll look at that and go to sleep or when he wakes up, he'll just play in his crib usually and look at that mural.

Claudia, I noticed that you mentioned you might be moving to NC...when? If you move close to Raleigh, we can definitely get together. Wouldn't that be so fun?

Ernesto is doing his thing here for sure. Boy, it was soooooo windy and rainy last night that I was sure our bedroom wall was going to cave in (at least that's how it sounded). Didn't sleep well at all last night because it was so loud. I kept wanting to go get DS and put him in bed with us.

Honestly I don't think so... I know in my heart if I want to get PG again, I will need to pay another visit to the infertility Dr....

And the feeling full is because I have been stuffing myself for no reason! we have tons of things to do, so we tend to eat fast, and that just ruins everything!!

Oh Preah, we had the same concerns with Lia when we went on vacation to NC 2 weeks ago. We practically brought Lia's ENTIRE NURSERY down with us. She is also a very scheduled baby, like down to the minute, and we thought we'd have a problem if we didn't mimic the exact environment she's used to. Ends up we didn't need even 3/4 of the stuff we brought down. And she was a joy at the beach - except when we took her out to dinner with us. She was a nightmare....

But heck i dont know how much work that is and how spendy it will be.

and i have no clue how much i can get for the tub..

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

does it sound like to much work..i would love a play room..

My best friend since the 6th grade. She's the only non-family member that I have from my childhood. I know I am biased since she is my best friend, but she is just the coolest woman I know. No pretenses about her, she's just herself and that is so wonderful.

sgoethe - I LOOOOVE clawfoot bathtubs! I have always wanted one. We have a little dining room off the living room and we just converted that into a play area until we can buy a house with a real play area.

AAAAAHHH MM, the wishful thinking is to move to NC... it seems to be the only place that would suit our needs, and I would hope I can transfer with the bank I work for.... if any, it would happen in couple of years, but I keep dreaming.... so it would be either Charlotte, or Raleigh

We are going away for the weekend and I just made a list of things I need to pack for Danielle... that thing never ends!!! it is just amazing the amount of crap you need to bring for a baby!! good thing the hotel is providing the pack & play (gotta love Disney hotels)

Cecilia, you really don't need to go back on this post, it probably changes subject every page!!!

Don't you wish babies can stay babies for another year, so we can enjoy them longer???? I think that is one of the main reasons why we want another baby!!

So, Friday was really slow here at work, and we decided to leave at 4.... around 3:30pm our branch was robbed!!! (I work for a bank... our offices are on the 6th floor, branch on the first one) nothing much happened and they got the idiot who did it...

Oh my gosh Claudia, I bet that was scary for the people on the first floor! I have thought about that if someone would rob the library but I don't think they would. We never have that much money.

There was a fire right across the street from my mom and dad's house yesterday. There is not enough water pressure on that side of town so it was a little scary. They had to get big tanker trucks to haul water.

Sarah, we used to do that, but I always felt I was paying more than DH, mainly for the extras.... and I was the one paying for daycare and ALL things for Danielle (diapers, formula, wipes, clothes, etc), so we decided to put all the money together. He still spends in all this nonsens ($150 in Lego???) but knows the other stuff for home needs to be taken care of first!
The kicker is that the money goes to a joint account that was primarily his, and I actually feel guilty about spending money in other things than neccesities, so I am not spending that much!! and he doesn't say anything, we agreed those things would not be questioned, as long as the bills are paid..... I am still not 100% convinced, but that is because he spends tons of money on useless crap!! the only think I bought extra were some letters for Danielle's room... like $10!!!

sunshine
09-05-2006, 11:36 AM
We do something similar...we both deposit our paychecks in the shared account and then we have our own seperate accounts. We each have a set "allowance" and that's all the $ we get to spend. We pay the bills from the shared account.

i got rid of DH, he went hunting all weekend and my mom and sister and BIL all went out of town..so it was me and the babies..i loved it...my house stayed clean and we got to relax...i did spend some time getting junk together for a yard sale..and my daddy cooked us all breakfast sunday morning..!

on a different note..

i decided that since DH is bad bad bad with money we are going to split everything right down the middle..his checks go into his account mine go into my account and we each pay 1/2 the bills..? anyone else do this? or htink it will work ok? its my last resort he jus wont stop spening..than i can have him beggin at my feet to help him out when he runs low on cash..he he he

It feels like it would be kind of a slippery slope to do the separate accounts thing... then it might get down to "no I bought toothpaste last time! It's your turn!" kind of stuff.

Budget doesn't work? Like - "Honey, here's your $100 cash for the week. When its gone, its gone!"

I think my perspective is off though because I am the spender in our family.

Ok, there is something that has been bugging me since yesterday.

First, I have some extra pounds Vs pre preg, and obviously I have the baby pooch along with the stretch marks... I have told DH several times how much this annoys me, and how sensitive I am when it comes to body remarks

Before I got PG, DH would make comments about other girls, and I would be cool with them.... lately I feel that the amount of comments has increased, and getting worst (yesterday it was "I don't understand how some men can be so lucky".... because he was a toad with a cute wife). After DD was born, I told him those comments were very hurtful, and I would appreciate if he could just shut up or spare me from them. Well obviously they haven't stopped, so yesterday I asked him if he is so attracted to skinny women with big butts and big boobs, what was he doing "stuck" with me..... I am still waiting for an answer!!!

The kicker is that he is honestly not drop dead gorgeous, skinny or anything like that... I NEVER make any remarks about other men, I feel uncomfortable if he asks me.....

I wonder if he has an answer for me today........ it just hurts me and makes me want to pack my stuff and get the h3ll out of there!!

1st of all I have seen your pictures and I think you are a very good looking woman! 2nd I would tell your DH its a respect issue and you wont put up with being disrespected like that. This issue isn't weather or not its right or wrong for him to make comments. If it hurts you then its wrong not questions about it.

GRRR!! I know you love your DH and he must be a great guy but right now I would like to kick his butt for you!

sarahlynn

ugh those comments can hurt...especially after a baby when your body/emotions/hormones are all out of whack...

my DH has never been one to make comments like this but i had a BF once who did.."why can you wear short skirts like that" "why can you dress like that for me" BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

now since i am the snide vindictive type person i would start making comments about men when out with him..."WOW that guy is hot she is so lucky" "Yowza that guy has one nice shlong" ok that might be overboard but DID I MAKE YA SMILE

She pasted a picture of the sunshine boy over her husband's face in the portrait sized wedding photo in their living room. She made sure that everyone coming into the house saw it and introduced him as her new boyfriend. (And she had a lot of people come to the house as she is Portuguese with a LOT of family)

Oh - for now I floss and brush MY teeth... Stella's I never touch.

How funny is that. I will endeavor as long as it takes to get a big booger out of her nose, but will I spend 2 minutes to make sure her teeth don't rot? Sheesh!

Actually, we'll probably floss early just to make it part of the habit. After 4 root canals in one year that could have been avoided if I had flosses, I will teach her to floss!!!!

It was also because for 8 years when I was a kid, my mom forgot to take me to the dentist and me being a kid was NOT going to remind her. So no cavities were fixed and there was no one there saying "brush and floss!"

Oh how I wish I could take those 8 years and floss my way through them!

I absolutely HATE dentists!! I had a wild one who will do all the cleaning and filling without anesthesia!!! it just scared me too much to trust another one.... even though they use anesthesia!! but I need to set a good example for Danielle, so I should go to the dentist and suck it up

I would be devastated. From the first date, I knew that he was the only man I could ever see as father to my children, and to know that Stella wouldn't really know her papa would kill me.

As far as the non-emotional stuff, I'd be just fine. I run everything anyway, and have a lot more life experience than he does, so I'd be just dandy.

I'd have only half a heart, but I could pay the bills ontime.

It was Sesame Street theme. We rented those big tables. And put different colored table cloths on each one.

We had a baby pool, pinata with baby toys (all her cousins were between 8mon and 2 yrs)

A big cake that had her 1yr pic on it. And a little cake for her.

There was like 10 of us. Honestly, it was so much better having the small party...maybe cause I was 9 months pregnant with Ronin and having contractions (he was born 4 days later), but it was so sweet to have just the family. Now next year I'll celebrate Ronin's 1st and Ella's 2nd TOGETHER and we'll have a big blowout at a local park!!

I just went to two first birthday partys last week and I was disappointed. It was more about the adults then the kids. Both had a BBQ but the adults just talked and the kids (what few were there) just sat around. It looked like 50 adults and about 7 kids. The last party they didn't even open the presents. The mom said "oh we can do that later, after everyone leaves, we don't want to interupt peoples conversations." I was like OK!!! For baby Lia's 1st, I want to do a halloween theme - she was born on 11/4. But I don't know who I'd even invite other than my girlfriends and family. Out of all of us there'd only be about 3 kids. Once she's older and in daycare and has friends it'll be better (and a lot more work I'm sure)

Should children witness child birth?

>>Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call.
>>The house was very, very dark, so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a
>>3-year-old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her Mommy so he
>>could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently,
>>Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed, and after a
>>little while Connor was born.
>>The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his
>>bottom. Connor began to cry.
>>The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the

What is your irrational fear???

Fire...is by far my biggest fear. Namely, a house fire. DH and i have our room, along with Madi's room on the top floor, and we have a roll up ladder under our bed just in case. As a child i used to pack a suitcase everynight of my "valuables" in case the house caught on fire and i had to grab it and go. looking back, that was totally crazy, and my parents used to talk to me about it ALL the time. i probably needed counseling for it...i spent an hour everynight packing a bad and an hour in the morning unpacking it. weird huh? but i was little like 8-10 years old

also, i fear DEATH. i dont know why....its what ill leave behind, or how ill go,..its the whole concept of death that scares me

I'm afraid of talking to people I don't know on the phone. I hate calling to confirm appointments, calling anyone to ask a question (like the bank or health insurance or something) and even calling to ask for things like my doctor for prescription refills. I'd much rather do everything online or automated.
I'm also afraid of losing the person I'm with in the grocery store or department stores. This is from my childhood when I still remember (I had to be wicked young too) that my mom left me standing in the checkout line at the grocery store while she went to get something. It got to my turn in line and I said "my mom will be right back" and the cashier rolled her eyes at me. Yeah, not a big deal, but apparently it scarred me for life!

Turns out we were on the wrong end of the street...it was supposed to be something East, and we were on West, or something like that, and we didn't know how it worked. The hotel turned out to be in a great location, in walking distance of the Smithsonians and everything.

I fear a fire also. Actually i was thinking what a good idea, to pack everything i thought was priceless. Of course my DH and kids are first and formost. I lay awake at night thinking about how to get DD, DS and the dog out of the house in case of a fire. We are on one level and DS is 13 so he can help but still this scares me.

I can not watch scary movies. The last thing I watched was six sense and it still bothers me, it was not even scary. If i get a cold chill I have to look around judt to make surre I don't see some ghost. LOL!!! Yes I am crazy.

I can't say that I am freaked out at all by scary movies. I love them. I am however worried about fire. We live in a two story house and both DH's and my room as well as Christopher's room are on the 2nd story. We also have so many animals I know we wouldn't be able to save them all if anything did happen.

I cannot watch scary movies, with DH or without.

I actually made the mistake of watching that movie with Ashton Kutcher. I cant remember what it was called when DH was coaching one night. It was like 12am and I was home alone. That movie freaked me out!!

YES butterfly effect.

ok i have a story about that movie...
DH and i wanted to see it, so we went when it was kinda old in the theater...and we were the only ones in there. about 1/2 way thru a starnge man in a LONG black trench coat walks in the theater and sits DIRECTLY behind us. we are THE only ones in there and he sits right behind us. i just knew that we were gona die! we were both freaking out royally and even talked about leaving. so we got up and moved....but we were really nervous. i mean who does that...sits directly behind someone in an empty theater?

I wrote about going to that finanical peace university. I went to the information meeting last night and got all the material. It looks really good! There is a book you have to read and then a workbook and some other things. The workbook has all kinds of budget sheets in it. I will let you all know how it goes. It has all kinds of different topics. It is 13 weeks long with budgets, insurance(which I know nothing about life, car, home, everthing), retirment, career choices, morgages, debt, just all kinds of stuff. I can't wait to get started. It is just a thing to get your finances worked out and totally out of debt.

It is at the church where Zachary goes to school. They have a ton of sites. It is Dave Ramesy and he has a website. The couple that started this one did it because it helped them so much. They told us they 62,000 dollars in dept and have paid all but 13,000 in 2 years.

WOW, how amazing that there is a program like that out there.

DH and i dont use credit, except for the obvious...house, cars...

it HAS to be a total relief to find something like that.

Maybe I should send DH to one of those Universities.... he sucks when it comes to finances and credit... his philosophy is instant gratification!! when I tell him we should save and buy later, he looks at me like I am crazy!!!

I think I will get alot out of it. We only have one credit card with not much on it and car loans. I want to get those car loans where we don't have any and the house loan also. Oh and a student loan from DH's college. I really want to learn how to put back for college and retirement.
