Awwww...It is the start of my favorite time of year...Soup Season! Haha! We had our first soup night on Sat and I almost always have it for lunch in the winter.

Sarah does your DH deer hunt? Mine just hunts pheasant and grouse. And only when we go to his parents or mine. :)

Is it bad that I really only look over the thread titles and read ones that perk my interest? Also, I really only go into the pg forum, this one, bfing, SAHM, and random. This is the only thread that I have consistently read. It just seems like there is so many posts and so many people that I don't want to have to try to remember everyone.

I don't like pheasant or grouse so Joey is on his own preparing and eating those. My uncles and brother deer hunt though and I like deer sausage and jerky.

hi! We went on a walk outside after lunch with my neighbor. I feel so isolated sometimes staying home. Isn't that horrible to say. I'm starting to go to a playgroup next week though so hopefully that will help

YUM banana bread is so good. I;m making chicken and dumplings for dinner.

I love short hair...can't wait to see a picture. Mine use to be really short but dh likes it longer so its growning out. Why do I always feel the need to please him

The porto cath is a pretty easy procedure. They do it right in the office.

My stepmom had hers done in the drs office at MDAnderson. They gave her a local anestesia and put it in. It was taken out the same way. It made her chest a little sore but nothing major ...like when you think of surgery

I thought the same thing about what Claudia said..... Truth... I didn't do Morgans ears when she was little and I wish I would have. the only reason I didn't was because 4 weeks after Morgan was born I had SU-PRIZE back surgery. Now I don't want to do it because I am afraid she would pull them out.

Claudia... how do you think bell pepers would taste in that chicken salad? Would it be over kill with the cleery?

I don't think I've ever had it with bell peppers

I really don't think theres anything wrong with piercing your babies ears. I think it looks cute. I have problems with mine though so I'm waiting to do reese's incase she has the same problem. I can't wear earrings longer than an hour because they get bloody (nice uh?)

Pam, i am not fond of bell peppers, but I would say go for it!!! I would love grapes, but Dh doesn't mix fruits with savory foods

My thing with earrings is that most people in this country (DH included) think it should be the kids's decision, and that is almost barbaric to do it to kids... well I don't go around critizicing people who do stuff that is different from what I believe, so it ircks me that people are so narrow minded that they cannot respect that it is a NATURAL thing for me... There are tons of people here who demand respect but are unable to give it  ... so I guess I am sticking to this thread only

Tracy, sorry about your kitty. Hope he is ok with your brother.

Sarah, sorry about the cathether.... I hope the procedure is painless. It breaks my heart that Matt has to go through all this :(

So Dh asked me what I want for Christmas and I have no clue... usually I get clothes but I am too fat to want to spend money on clothes, so I am getting an Ipod and join the 21 century (my car has a TAPE player!!!)

OH,,,, I made chicken salad last night using your rec. but tweaking it a little. LOL 1st I learned boiled chicken is nasty even if it is going to be mixed in chicken salad. I added red bell pepers (and thank it taste great and adds a little color) and also added some dill weed and parmasen (sp?) cheese. Its pretty good only no more boiled chicken for me. :yuck:

OK OK its all me I know it is! But I am having a what the heck why do all your comments have to sound like such a snob! Ugh! The Halloween Candy topic is getting under my skin so why do I keep reading it. I know its all me I am taking way to personal! So what my kid has had candy. She doesn't make a meal of it and only gets candy once or twice a month. I always feel as if I don't care if you give your kids candy or not but non candy givers think us candy givers are abusing our kids.

Yep... I am a fat hog and eat candy and I know it. That doesn't mean I am going to let my child founder herself on candy!

OK vent over :vibes:

newmami
10-30-2007, 08:44 AM
Pam, I also got offended with that one.... that is why I am trying to stay only on non controversial threads.
YES Dani eats cake and icecream, and I give her chocolate, and yesterday she had a cookie for breakfast... SO WHAT??? am I dooming her for life??? no!!! is she getting fat??? no!!! she still eats healthy, but sugar is not prohibited in my house

Oh and yesterday DH made a comment about how silly (stupid?) I act with the kids, because I was rolling them on the floor and doing a silly dance.... I told him life is too short not to have fun, and that MAYBE he could try once to be a little silly... but (surprise surprise) he made the comment that the only fun he wants is sex.... talk about one track minded

Pam - I don't give Katelyn candy, but I don't judge others that do. Its just our choice with this one. I told the OP that I didn't think her DD would know what she was missing...if that is the thread you are referring to.,

Yeah but just because there are difference in how everyone raises their kids, I don't think anyone should criticize someone else's choice.

without
10-30-2007, 09:02 AM
I don't want any one to think I am hating on the other topic! Its me really it is!!! Most people just posted ther O in their and thats great! Its not every comment. I also say Yeah!!! to those of you who have keep sugar away from your kids. Goes back to will power. I know I am going to eat it and it would be unfair for me to say I can but you can't. Ya know.

Any way just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't hating just PMS'ing.

I mean Morgan at this time has made the choice to be an all veggies and fruit person. I myself eat meat but I don't push meat on her ( I do offer it to her but if she says no then thats fine with me) We eat organic and raise our own beef and chicken. We buy pork from the store but eat very little pork any way. I think we all have our hang ups.. For me... its store bought meat LOL for others its sugar. I understand to each his own. I really do.

Just feeling fat and sassy today.

Claudia... maybe I need some that sex to burn off some of these calories! LOL

Antibody May Help Heal MS Nerve Damage
Antibody Treatment Shows Promise in Preliminary Lab Tests on Mice
By Miranda Hitti
WebMD Medical NewsReviewed by Louise Chang, MDOct. 9, 2007 -- Scientists may
have found a way to reverse some nerve damage from multiple sclerosis -- a
discovery that may lead to new treatments for MS.

Researchers today reported that they've successfully used an antibody to
restore nerves' fatty sheath (called myelin) that had been ravaged by MS in
mice.

The scientists, who work at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester,
Minn., haven't tried that technique yet in people.

The Mayo Clinic's Arthur Warrington, PhD, and colleagues tested a lab-made
antibody called rHIgM22.

They injected the antibody into mice with an MS-like condition that destroyed
the mice's myelin.

A single dose of the antibody helped repair the mice's myelin within five
weeks.

The "stage is set" for myelin repair, but MS prevents that repair from
happening, write Warrington and colleagues. They suggest that rHIgM22 antibody
treatment might allow that repair to take place.

The findings were presented today in Washington at the American Neurological
Association's annual meeting.

I hear you Sarah... I gave my opinion, but I can see that turning UGLY!!!

Of course I will post pictures of her birthday here!! it would not be a big deal, just us and my parents, but still... I don't have the big party spirit yet... maybe once she is older, I can even make her pinata!!

Is it time to go home?????????

Forgot to tell you that I started weaning from the Zoloft again. I am taking it every other day, see how that goes!!

I told her she had to wait until she was 18 or else there would be nothing to look forward to if she got alot now. So she goes "What if Daddy takes me for my 17th Birthday?" I told her her better not that I checked with him first!

1.5 hours left to go time...

Cy has his teachers conference today at 5:30...they have a new program where i can go online and look at all his grades and his assignemts..so far he is an A-B student..i am such a proud mama..i strugled so hard with puttin him on meds but seeing him doing so well helps me somuch to be ok with my choice..

i think its cool how all cys teachers know lucea and one day will get to have her in their classes..

i got a letter home from the school a general letter for everyoen and it said they have been having trouble with kids writing in the bathrooms..i read it to cy..he went WHAT MOM I DONT DO THAT  i said you better not..thats disrespecting others property..i could tell he was thinking I AINT THAT STUPID MOM

yeah the first week was tough, they gave him an upset stomach..but we got that anti nausea med that you rub on your wrists and he took that for a long time with the meds and he did great..he just takes the one pill inthe morn and thats it..no weekends or holidays or summer..its so amazing to see the change inhis grades and ability to focus and work..i dont mention it much on apa because meds can be the  to many..

one hour ladies ...ugh cy just called me sick..i know he is full of it..his dumb friends hang out outside the school (they walk home afterschool) and Cy has to stay at afterschool program till i am done so he sees his friends and wants to leave..so i think the sick call was so he can see his friends..honestly everyday i go to get him the friends are already there pacing waiting for him..irriateing me

Sarah - I always put it this way...If you are too sick to go to school (or stay at after care as the case may be) then you are too sick to go hang out with friends (or go to the football game in my kids case) They usually think twice about how sick they actually are.

Happy Halloween girls!!

I am so behind on this post once again. I have been running around like a mad woman these past couple days.

Katie went to her first dentist appt. on Monday. I could not go back and I cried like a baby in the waiting room. They had to strap her down since she is so young so she would not stick her hands in her mouth while cleaning her whole 10 teeth. I felt she was too young but since she has Medicad I had to take her before she turned 2. At least Dylan was back there at the same time getting his teeth cleaned so if anything went wrong I know he would have taken charge.

Katie will be a dog tonight, go figure... her favorite animal, and I can't wait. I hink I am all excited just to dress her up and take her out. Iknow she will not know what it really going on. The whole family is going up, pray for me..lol. Well my mom is getting her hair done near me and will stop by this afternoon but all of Drews family is coming by or we have to go to there house.

pssstt... Lynn I saw this awesome drum set at kb toys on sale Monday.

My parents rule was... if we were to sick to go to school than we needed to be in bed sleeping. No TV no radio (this rule got broke if they could tell we were really sick) no phone nothing. The only time we were able to get out of bed was if we needed to pee! Worked on me I only did it once! I mean.. All day too!!! We couldn't even watch the news with Dad at 5

i got a letter home from the school a general letter for everyoen and it said they have been having trouble with kids writing in the bathrooms..i read it to cy..he went WHAT MOM I DONT DO THAT i said you better not..thats disrespecting others property..i could tell he was thinking I AINT THAT STUPID MOM

Bless your heart Tracy for taking Katie to the dentist. I don't have the courage to take Katelyn. I know our family dentist told me to go ahead and take her to a pediatric dentis...but do they really need it now at this age? I'm not convinced. I know you had to take Katie because of medicaid.

I've been lurking in this thread for awhile and am finally deciding to make the leap and post here :-). We didn't take Abbie out Trick or Treating last night but decided to hand out candy. There seemed to be a lot more Trick or Treaters than I remember from last year and I ran out of candy a lot earlier than I would have liked to and I felt bad as I ran out with kids at my door. I'll have to remember to buy more candy next year if we are home to give out candy.

I had a pumpkin costume I found for $5 after Halloween last year that I used for Abbie. The in-laws had their Trick or Treating on Sunday afternoon and we took her over there in her costume while they gave out candy.

He always makes these comments to my kids and he says he is "joking" but they make the kids feel bad, like they aren't wanted around us. Like last night he said something to my older DD about her going out alone or not coming with us to trick or treat. It was "oh so you have to go with your mommy and daddy still?" Beacuse she said she wanted to come around with us. She felt like he didn't want her there. I saw the hurt look on her face. He says the kids get the "look" on purpose and get dramatic so that I will get mad at him. Gaffffffff!!!! I hate being in the middle. But some of the things he says I just want to go...  :x "WTF did you say that for" I always feel like I have to be a buffer for his comments.

Sorry so long...

Hey Ladies!!! missed me??

Dani and Chris had a HORRIBLE night on Tuesday, so I stayed home yesterday and took them to the Drl. Dani has an ear infection (again), but Chris has just a cold... I played nurse yesterday, while my heart was breaking seeing my little ones sick
They are doing better, Dani is taking her medication like a trooper, and they are back on daycare (I HATE WORKING :()
So no trick or treating for us, kids went to sleep like 6:30 pm

So, they are implementing a new software here and they want me here next monday until 9 pm... hmm I don't think so!! I am making DH leave for work, so I can go home on time... what part of 8 to 4:30 they didn't understood????

Erica, Kim and Momabear, welcome here!!!

Lynn, I am sorry you are having problems with DH... I know first hand blended families are a nightmare.... I hope DH apologizes to your DD, and BTW he should be happy she wants to spend time with the family!!!

Lynn that has to be very hard..especially being in the middle of it..but if those types of comment hurt the kids he needs to just stop ya know..hurt feelings suck no matter what age a kid or adult is..i always tell DH he needs to be careful what he says to cy cause he gets his feelings hurt so easy..

Cy was doing much better he went to school YAY and slept allll night..now lucea woke up twice UGH and coughed and coughed and coughed..blah it took me 3 weeks to get better and she is only on 1.5 weeks..

Are you guys getting backlash from the hurricane, Claudia? Saw something on the 6 a.m. news where they were measuring the wind gusts, etc., on Juno Beach...
It's sunny in Naples.

Ciara will not nap, and she is very cranky with being sick. I put her in her crib, but she was coughing away...afraid she'll make herself sick again, and there will be more laundry to do, so...she is running wild, and I hope she crashes soon.

We're going to my parents' house for Turkey Day and I'm looking forward to having my Dad's Turkey and dressing - he's a very good cook. Last year we were traveling at Thanksgiving so I missed out on my dad's cooking although we were in St. Thomas so I didn't complain too much as I was wearing shorts and a tank top instead of my usual winter coat on the holiday :-).

Thanksgiving - My parents have decided since they retired last year that Thanksgiving is too much work for my mother. Mind you she is only 69. So my sister and I are doing it, but at my parents house. They have room for everyone. Only 14 people this year. Not bad. My DH's brother and his wife and kid have to be invited since we are their only family down here.

I'm going to make candy place card holders this year. Last year I made pilgrim hat place card holders.

Holy Smokes! I have a total Halloween hangover!! Gah! And I have no idea why my fellow MOMS club board members decided to have our board meeting this morning. Goodness!

We are headed to the in-laws for Thanksgiving. If I have my way we will be going up on Thursday morning and coming home on Sat. I want to see my brother and he will be here. My family usually has Thanksgiving out at my parents house. It is so fun because we all stay at the house(yeah, like 30 of us). I am really going to miss my mom's dressing this year. :( But my mom's family will all be at my aunt and uncle's since another of my uncle's is on call at the hospital that weekend.

I have so much candy in my house I am going to weigh 1000lbs before Thanksgiving! We had like 10(maybe) trick or treaters. So we have a ton of candy left over and we have all the candy that the kids got.

I am back... kids are doing better, still coughing and with runny nose, but no more fever... YEAH!!
Dani is such a trooper, she takes her medicine without any complains, she actually takes the little cup and drinks it... ** sigh ** I have a wonderful daughter!!
Chris had a good weekend to, he took 2 steps crawling  Best thing we were there to witness them... DH even cried

So next week my parents are here!! WOO HOO!!! I have monday off, and my parents arrive tuesday afternoon... Dh said no reason to pay for daycare that week, so he is staying home tuesday with the kids    and work from there
Guess I have to give him some huh??

We went to the fall festival this weekend, it was nice to be out of decent weather... we ate corndogs and everything.. YUM! Dani LOVED the playground, went on her own on the slide :( my little girl is growing too fast. Chris loved the swing, but it made him sleepy :D
The only :? was DH's son bossing my kids around  . I told him again that he is not there to tell them what they can or cannot do, and that if he keeps the attitude, he is going to have a problem with me... God forgive me, but I cannot stant the brat!!

Ciara still has her cold, and Drake has it. I called the pedi, because I started reading, and they say to call right away with first symptoms with an infant under 3 months. Of course, also for my reading pleasure, all the stuff about RSV and croup. So, I started to freak b/c he was born 5 weeks early, so 3 weeks adjusted. And he does have a cough (sounds like a litlle puppy dog) :( Anyways, the receptionist said she will have the nurse call, but doesn't think they can do anything. He doesn't have a temp...it's 99.2, but that's rectally. So.

My house continues to smell like Vick's...

He's snoozing now...wasn't a happy camper earlier. Nothing like trying to use those suction things, either, right? Aspirator, I guess it's called. He was seriously pissed. Calmed him down, put him down so I could go get the thermometer, and by the time I was back he'd spit up everywhere. So, then he had a bath, ate again, and is finally down for however long it lasts.

On another note, I had enchiladas for breakfast.

DD is doing ok. I think she's milking it, but it was surgery and she did have all 4 removed so... :? She was off Friday and I let her take today off too. But its back to school tomorrow.

Remember a few weeks ago when a "former" friend of DD hit my son with her car? No one was hurt, but still. Well, she is still so pissed that my DD called the cops. The girls won't speak to DD and someone called and told DD that in the next two weeks our house is being egged. Who do you think is probably the culprit behind that!

Hi girls! I'm here! Here and in a lot of pain. I posted in Random, but I will post it here too. Saturday evening my thigh felt a little uncomfortable in one spot and when I investigated, I had what looked like a little pimple. Whatever, no big deal. Well, Sunday it started hurting a lot and also started getting swollen. It turned red and it feels like a knot underneath the skin. My buddies here at work think I have a boil :yuck: and told me I need to pop it and drain it. That scares me! I have a low pain tolerance for stuff like that. Plus, I'm worried that maybe it could be Staph? What sucks the most, is it's on my inner thigh, super close to my crotch and it rubs my other leg when I walk. Which makes it hurt worse! I think I'm going to give it a few days and see what it does, then go to the Dr. I was just there Friday, but looks like I will be going back sometime this week. I'm embarrassed to go to him though because it's super close to my crotch!

Ouch! Candice!! I had one on my inner leg near my who ha too and it hurt so bad. I left it a lone and let it burst on its own and then it took weeks to drain. I would rather do that than cut on it or try to pop it.

Sherry, not sure about the teeth... I know white spots in your nails means lack of calcium......

What I don't understand is how the Deductible and Max out of pocket work... Do I have to pay for EVERYTHING until we reach the deductible, or the copay, tests, etc add for the deductible?? what about when it is 90% covered, do I pay for the other 10% plus the copay??????

I AM SO CONFUSED!!! :?:

willsmama
11-05-2007, 02:04 PM
The max out of pocket is the max amount you have to pay of ANY MEDICAL costs for the whole year. If a procedure is 90% covered and you haven't met your max, you'd have to cover the full 10%.

I am an expert now because I met my out of pocket max this year. Meaning, until 12/31 I can do ANYTHING medically because I don't have to pay ANY out of pocket!

Tracy what about the deductible?? say the Pedi visit is $100, do I just pay the copay or do I have to pay the $100, and keep paying until I reach the total deductible??

God the EPO is easier!! all paid, no worries

willsmama
11-05-2007, 02:21 PM
You pay the deductable UNTIL you reach the out of pocket max.

For example, my hospital copay was $300/night. I was there for a week. That is $2100! BUT my out of pocket max was only $1650. SO, I only paid $1650 of the $2100.

Does that make sense? Now I don't pay anything (until 2008 starts)

One other thing to keep in mind is that some out of pocket maxes include your deductible charges and some don't. My plan counts the deductible towards the out of pocket. For example, this year I had a $300 deductible and $800 out of pocket max. Until I hit the $300 deductible I had to pay the whole cost for any medical services (well the negotiated cost with the insurance company) and then once I went over that I paid 10% until I got to $800 total for the year (some insurance companies won't count the deductible money towards the out of pocket so you end up spending $1100 total with this example). I went over my out of pocket max on my hospital stay bill so I think that cost me $23 instead of $841.

I'm in the same boat as Tracy and am trying to fit in appointments before 12/31 since it won't cost me. I'm going to the dermatologist in a couple weeks for a full body scan and have an appointment with a new primary care physician in a month - I haven't had a pcp in a few years. The pcp I originally wanted to get into couldn't take me until January and I wanted that appointment this year yet - it will be a lot cheaper.

I am sorry Sarah, I would be upset as well

Ok, so this is how it works (see if my brain is working today)
I pay the allowed amount that is billed, until I reach the deductible. After that, I only pay whatever the insurance is not paying (10 or 20%) and then all that adds up and when I reach my total out of pocket I don't pay anything else?
Then why do I have copays??? are those only for the services that are 100% covered?

Do the deductible and max out of pocket only apply to services that are not 100% covered?

Would you recommend this to someone who barely uses the doctors? we have insurance mostly for the kids, DH and I rarely use them (Ok except when I was PG!!!)

Okay, with Bianca and Brenna's insurance (covered by their Dad), it works like this...Well Child visits were covered (even when the deductible hadn't been met), and I just had to pay the co-pay ($20). But if they had a sick visit, that was out of my pocket and towards the deductible. When they were younger, it seemed that I was just meeting the deductible each year at the end of the year, so that I then began all over again. I'm sure that was no happen-stance, and the insurance realizes a child will be sick X #'s of times, and about the time the deductible's met and they are liable to pay the medical, it's a new year!

CandiceLeigh
11-05-2007, 02:46 PM
Claudia, I have no idea how insurance works either! Reading all this is giving me a headache! All I know is it costs $100 a month for me and Chris to have insurance thru my work. If I added DH, it would be $400!
