Do you have any other pictures of her face? The 3D scans can be tricky and don't always show you exactly how things really appear- there was many times during my 3D/4D scan that my daughter looked like she was missing a limb or had a hole in her head, but in reality she was just fine.

I agree that one 3d pic isn't enough to tell.

Yeah it may or may not be. If doc isn't concerned I wouldn't be either. I know it's hard. But it also looks like your baby has a hole in her head, doesn't mean she does. :)

You should probably make an appointment to talk to you OB about your concerns. They can contact the u/s doctor and help point out how the scan is seen as normal. The angle of the scan, movement of the baby, even the the type of wand they use on your belly can make things difficult to pick out.

i would think that a bone deformity such as a cleft lip would show up on a regular 2d u/s and that a dr would see it right away. and since the dr is not concerned nor saying anything about it i would think that everything is probably ok. but like other pp have said.. call and talk to your ob to ease your fears.

Its definitely from a 4d scan. The terms get confusing. 2D images don't show depth (regular pic). When you get a "regular u/s" it doesn't show depth so it's 2D PLUS the dimension of "time" since you see movement, hence 3D. Add depth to a regular u/s and you have 4D. You have a picture that is 3D since it's not a video so the "time" dimension is gone.

We did the 3d u/s twice with this baby and both times we couldn`t get good images of his face. The one face pic we got looked like he had a cleft lip as well, but the dr assured me that they had seen enough during the scan that she was sure he didn`t have a cleft lip. Thankfully, when he was born he was just fine. I know how you feel though! :hugs:

Try not to worry, the 3D pics can have all kinds of weird anomalies and shadows on them. Bring up your concerns with your Doc. but my guess is that everything is fine!

I don't mean to detract from the original post, but thanks for such a great explanation of the scan terms. I never remember to ask when I'm in the office, but I certainly wondered about 4D.

I never did a 3/4D u/s with DD because of this very reason. I've read that a lot of doctors are against it only because you may see things that aren't really there. I don't think your u/s tech or doc would have over looked something as big as clift lip. I agree with the other post, do bring it up with your doctor.

I was told by a PA that I could use Retin-A during pregnancy. I still had a gut feeling that it wasn't ok, so I brought it up with my OB. He told me to stop immediately and had a team look through my u/s to make sure no abnormalities were missed. It put me at such great ease. I hope you get that peace of mind soon!!

In some of our 3 d scans the image was distorted and I feared my baby had inherited my grandfather's huge French-Canadian shnoz. She has an adorable cute little nose. Definitely call your doctor if it causes you concern though. :hugs:
