View Full Version : Expecting Mamas who are fitness instructors....advice welcome!
Just wondering if there are any others out there? Or if there is already a thread where you all post? We are expecting our third child, but I was not an instructor with my previous pregnancies. I feel like I am in unchartered territory. Everything I have read says listen to your body and slow down when you need to. I have had 2 previous miscarriages and my last pregnancy I barely moved at the beginning of the pregnancy because I was afraid to jostle the baby. Needless to say, I am definitely moving this time :) I teach ZUMBA and it's all about movin' and shakin'!
Any thoughts/comments/encouragement appreciated.

I taught belly dancing until about 8 months along with my last child and he was my 8th. I also taught belly dancing and even performed up until about a week before Kyan was born. Just remember that your balance changes the bigger you get and be extra vigilant about staying hydrated, but exercise levels pre-pregnancy can continue during pregnancy most of the time.

I am not a fitness instructer, but I am into my workouts and what Mary Jane said (above) is exactly what my doctor told me. If you are in shape before, continue what you were doing (as long as it is comfortable and you are staying hydrated).
The only exception to that would be something like twists and bends, which may not be much of an issue if you're teaching Zumba and don't use those in your warm-up or cool-down routines.

GA1977 is a personal trainer I believe. It seems like she taught and participated in boot camp right up until just before her littlest was born. I have a close friend who is a spinning instructor and she taught spin until 38 weeks this past December and the pregnancy before that she was a Zumba instructor three times a week up until 36 weeks.
That is all very encouraging! Thanks!
