I am in the Army and I have had an irregular period since basic training....
I now have a period every other month & unlike most women my cycle is 64 days. I just found out at the beginning of Jan. that I am pregnant after I missed my expecting period the end of Dec. My last period was Oct 25, so based off my LMP they are saying I'm 12 weeks, but i really highly doubt i'm that far along. Should I believe the nurse or just wait for my ultrasound to really see?

Thanks!

With irregular periods unless you know when you ovulated an us is going to be more accurate than your lmp.

If memory serves you will always ovulate 14 days before your next period starts. If your cycles are consistently 64 days you would have ovulated on day 50 of your cycle as opposed to day 14-16 of a "normal" cycle. This would mean that you are about 5 weeks less far along than they think - more like 7wks than 12wks. That will at least get you close and it can be confirmed with an US. I have not-normal cycles too - mine are slightly more complicated than yours - and I always end up arguing with medical staff about why I know when I'm due and they don't. I've called all my EDDs within 4 days of the US date. With this baby the dr was 18 days off. He actually measured the baby 7 times at the first US then told me he didn't think the pregnancy was viable because "There's no way I'm that far off on the due date." They can be very wrong if you are pretty far from the norm. I would definitely get a dating US so you know though. Most offices will go by the LMP date as a rule until an US proves otherwise even if the staff understands your situation. Either way if they haven't scheduled a dating US for you, you should request it soon - they are most accurate before 12wks. Given the vast difference in the 2 EDDs you could end up being induced way earlier than necessary because your chart says the baby is done cooking when it really isn't - which can cause long term medical issues for your baby. Not to mention drs can get skiddish about babies "not growing/thriving" properly if the due dates are really messed up too. Again those would only be things to be concerned about if the due date is wrong. Better to know for sure than risk it IMO. Good luck momma.

I would wait for your dr appt. they'll do an u/s and that is the most accurate. Congrats on your pregnancy!
