So my children have succeeded in giving me the tummy bug and now their nasty cold. So I'm stuffy and have a nagging cough. Is there anything safe I can take for either or both? Thanks in advance. I'm a little over 8 weeks, not sure if my ticker will show as I'm posting from my cell. Thanks.

Zofran for the tummy bug if you call your doc. Ask for the sublingual kind. It dissolves on the tongue.
For the cold, I would just get claritin D if you're stuffy. It's a category B drug so its safe during pregnancy. Tylenol for any pain.
If you have a cough, you should call your doctor about that too because I was told I couldn't take anything over the counter for it, so maybe your doctor knows something you can have thats not a prescription.

My OB told me sudafed but he said it was save because I was full term and cold meds they worry about when your first pregnant. I would ask your OB what they think is safe. Otherwise you could try vicksvaporub.

For the cough, do Vicks on your feet and cover with cotton socks!!!! :) Here is a good reference for those drugs listed as safe during pregnancy: http://www.babycenter.com/0_chart-over-the-counter-medications-during-pregnancy_1486462.bc I'd probably try benadryl for the congestion and vicks on the feet before anything else. :hugs: I really hope you guys feel better soon!

that early on, i'd just call the doc and ask to be sure.

eeeeek! Congratulations!
I have no idea about the stomach/cold stuff at the moment. If it's really awful on the stomach front, Zofran/phenergan, especially if you're dehydrated. . . .

Sorry you're feeling so bad. My docs say no cold medicines in the first trimester so I'd definitely call. You can use saline drops and a warm humidifier with menthol. Warm lemonade or honey might help the cough.

The kids are feeling better. I still have a nasty cough. I called the ob and he said anything otc is fine. Then I took it looked it up on safe fetus and it came back cat c. So I'm done. Ill suffer through it. Irritates me I'm sure its fine but that makes me uneasy. I'm just doing hot tea now. Maybe some srytec if the congestion doesn't let up.
