So my due date is 12/27... and everyone has been on pins and needles waiting for this little boy to arrive. I "dropped" about a week or so before Thanksgiving, was checked and found to be 2cm dilated Dec 6th, and again checked the following week to be about the same and 80% effaced, and just checked again today... yup still only 2 cm and about 80-85% effaced... Now when I say everyone has been on pins and needles I mean everyone, esp. me and DH. :truce::truce::truce:

DH is outside sales and deals with Maine, NH and VT for his territory and has been lingering around home for 2.5 weeks waiting since I've been being told "Any day now" by the doctors...

Another decision not to "wait" for mother nature any longer is that back in Feb. I had an ectopic pregnancy and required surgery, which full filled our out of pocket responsibilities with the insurance company, so medically anything to do with me this year after that has been covered 100% by the insurance. If this baby waits till Jan 2010 then we would have to pay our out of pocket ($2,500) again!...

So if this baby does not make his appearance by the 27th... Im being induced (elective) on the 28th.

Ive heard that this experience can be very different for many woman. Some of my friends say their inductions ended in c-sections and where more painful labors... while other girlfriends have said their inductions really did not changed their labor pains from other pregnancies and still delivered naturally...

My doctors are planning on me delivering naturally, the baby's head is down and really there is no concern for complications...

Im hoping the baby comes on his own... but Im hoping the induction date will help bring some of my anxiety of the unknown and not having any control over this to a head.

i was in a similar situation when waiting for ds.... we decided on induction just so dh could relax too.. (he was having anxiety attacks about it all) the induction went just fine. i delivered vaginally, no complications, (i was 2 cm and about 60% effaced when dr started pitocen.... that was at 8 pm.... i got the epidural in the morning and delivered at noon.)
i have no other labors to compare the pain level so i am no help there. but i do know that if this baby is 7 days past the due i will elect to be induced again!

I was induced at 38wks (not voluntarily) my induction ended in a C/S. My body was nowhere near ready though.

You have to make the decision that is right for you and your family :hugs:

I was induced at 39w2d and delivered vaginally and everything went fine. I was admitted at 4pm dilated at 2, doctor broke my waters around 5:30, started pitocin, got my epidural at 9:30 (second epidural around 10:30 - that one worked), DS came at 1:50am. Once I got the epi that worked, I was very comfortable and all throughout every time they checked me, I was making progress. I thought it was a pretty good delivery overall.

I was induced at 38w5d with DD after my water broke 12 hours earlier and i wasn't having any contractions. I was 3cm and 90% when they started the pitocin at about 630am... got the epidural at 11am and was pushing by 12:00 - DD was born at 1:48pm.

I didn't have any complications either - ended up with 7 stitches from a tear but that probably would have happened with or without the pitocin. The only thing I noticed was that with the pit there's no lead up and no gradual increase in your contractions - you go 0 to 60. So instead of the contractions getting stronger and closer together over time, you go from having nothing to having full blown, full strength contractions every 1-2 minutes. That was the hardest part for me. However the major up side is the labor is usually a lot faster with the pitocin.

Not sure if you're doing a epidural or not but if you are, that may help as well! Like I said, I got my epidural about 11am and was only about 3.5 cm at the time... 45 minutes later I was a 9. In my case, I think the epidural just helped me relax and stop fighting the labor so I progressed really quickly.

I wouldn't be nervous about it though - if I were in your situation, I'd do the same thing you are! Good luck! :)
