How soon can you usually hear the heartbeat on a doppler?

As early as 9 weeks is what I've read, but don't be alarmed if you can't find it all the way up to 12 or even more weeks! I found the hb last pregnancy at 10 weeks, this pregnancy I couldn't find it until 12 weeks.

I guess I should also ask where is the best place to get one or what is the best inexpensive one.

I've never had my own doppler to use but we were able to hear the heartbeat at 9 weeks for my DS and for this baby at my doctors office.

Here's a good place to start. http://www.fetaldoppler.net/ I probably wouldn't buy the cheapest, but not the really expensive ones either. I bought mine for $99 back in '08. They have come down in price since. Mine is a Sonotrax brand (without the LCD display). Works great. :)

In the office they couldn't get DD1's until after 12 weeks... this DD they got on doppler at 9 weeks.
I had a home one with DD1 and NEVER got her HB on it... even when I was 38 weeks pregnant, lol. I've heard most people have bad luck with the home ones. I personally don't suggest using one at home - because it's really common to not be able to get the HB on it (Unless you spend a lot of money on the home doppler) and all it does it make you worry that something's wrong.
14 weeks for me with LO#2

I had rented one last pregnancy and I heard it at 9 weeks BUT other are right not to be alarmed if you don't hear it that early. It's worth it to buy one if you can..I heard great things about the sonotrax/sonoline and it's cheaper than renting.
