I've been experiencing my heart pounding pretty hard for the last few months or so. I think that is pretty normal during pregnancy due to increase blood flow, right? It would happen if I climbed a flight of stairs, or cleaned a room or something.

But now I have chest congestion/cough. I have been experiencing it OFTEN (several times a day), and over things that aren't at all strenuous. If I roll over in bed, or I get up off the couch, or if I have a coughing fit. My heart will pound for a good 5 minutes or more, and it makes me feel shaky.

Any ideas why being sick made this worse? Or if its normal to have it to begin with?

I had some heart palpitations/pounding when I was pregnant with DD, and the OB said it was normal. My palpitations/pounding were not as severe as yours sound. It couldn't hurt to call your OB or primary doc just to make sure what you're experiencing is normal during pregnancy. Hope you feel better :hugs:

Dehydration will make the heart issues worse. Stay on top of your fluids and watch your heart rate. I had to be hospitalized when I was 38 weeks because I caught the flu and my heart rate went up to 170-180 bpm. It started to come down a bit once I got a liter of fluids.

If your heart rate ever gets over about 110 and stays there, go to the ER because it can decrease the amount of oxygen getting to the baby.

Thanks girls.
I have been trying to drink enough water. I should drink more probably.
I didn't realize it could be an issue of getting oxygen to the baby. :shocker: That is good to know.
I have an appointment on the 13th, and I was going to bring it up then, but if this keeps up I may have to call earlier.
