Hello all,
I'm pregnant with my 2nd baby (6 weeks).
I had gestational diabetes with my 1rst birth. If exercise and good diet are in my daily routine, am I still at risk? I am overweight for my height and exercise regulary, I have made a big improvement with my diet.
Has anyone had GB with their 1rst pregnancy and not in their 2nd? Can exercise and diet really make a difference? I don't want to go through what I did with my first baby.
Thanks all.

You are still at risk, because GD is usually a precursor of type 2 diabetes later to come in life.
You can exercise and follow a good diet, but that doesn't mean you won't have it this time around.
I'm a type 1 diabetic and the diabetic life is not as bad as people make it out to be.

I was diagnosed with my last pregnancy (although never confirmed). Each pregnancy is very different so there is definitely a possibility that you won't have it. I would definitely incorporate the exercise/good eating habits right away. That's what I did and I just got tested the other day and passed my one hour and they plan on testing me again at 30 weeks.
I truly believe diet/exercise can help. It's not to say that you may not have it this time around, but it's definitely possible that you won't. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that you are more at risk for developing GD if you've had it with previous pregnancies, but I don't think its a done deal.

I had it with my first. I lost 30 pounds and changed my diet before I got pregnant with this one and do not have GD this time around but I still keep track of my levels to make sure they stay in check.

Thank you all for your responses! Since my 1rst pregnancy I've dramatically changed my diet and I've always kept a good exercise routine. Hopefully, I'll past the test :D - have a wonderful holiday!
