Case in point... I made this tonight.Color is weird-there is supposed to be some blue but my living room is very yellowly lit :P

I make signs and have a website (http://www.thecraftyartist.com (http://www.thecraftyartist.com/)) But given my artistic ability and lack of money I also make presents for friends for baby showers, weddings, etc. I also make tons of jewelry! I am getting prepared for a craft show in three weeks when I don't feel like crap that is! Here are three I made :)

I make a little bit of everything in various crafts. Crochet, knit, cross stitch, sewing machine, etc. Just depends on my mood. Not very good at any of it.
I have a set on my flickr page for my projects.
My BEST projects are done on the computer. Not graphic art stuff, I wish, but more document formatting stuff. I'm such a geek.

08-01-2010, 08:48 PM
Angela, we only really have enough for like 1 1/2 days right now LOL I need like another 10 or so, so Im not doing diaper laundry so much.
Im thinking these will all be fitteds with lay in or snap in soakers. Not sure if I can part with the dragon one! LOL I might have enough of that print left, to make one more, in two pieces like that one. That one was just a scrap really. The others I have quite a bit left :)

IMO a good 3 or 4 days worth diapers is the right amount. I used to hate having to do laundry so often!
virginia
08-01-2010, 09:01 PM
Thanks! and yea, it sucks having so few. I try to keep out like 3-4 when I do laundry, and then there are days he goes through those and I get annoyed haha
I think we have 19 or so now..I havent counted and Ive added 2-3 lately.
amorton1437
08-01-2010, 09:03 PM
Well I guess most babies pee more than Christian. NOT THAT I WOULD, but I am betting the same diaper could last all day and still not be all that wet. He is such a light wetter it is rediculous.
virginia
08-01-2010, 09:04 PM
Yea, I dont have that luxury  There are times he pees enough, it goes straight through the fleece outer ones! LOL

I have to admit now that Sam is older there are days that I wonder when I changed him last.... When he poops he tells me, so poop never just hangs around. But yeah, pee sometimes does. I try to use fitteds at home so when the outside is wet I remember to change him. But when we're out and about it's rare that I change him these days.
virginia
08-01-2010, 09:27 PM
I think Nathan pees more at home, because I dont usually have to change him when we are out, unless its a long time. He just varies haha I wish his poop would firm up more, because I dont have a sprayer and its a PITA trying to rinse them off LOL

Well you remember when we went out to the park? Of course you do, it was like last week  But the only reason I had needed to change him from the time I left my house until the time I got back was because he played in a fountain
wannaBmomma
08-01-2010, 09:33 PM
That's a good point V. Sam does pee a lot more at home than when we're out, too. Maybe it's because at home he's always drinking...
We need to do the fountain again soon angela.

the soaker I used the serger on :D
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b168/chinstuff/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0425.jpg
its upside down. And I dont care :P So, the one with snaps would have been the same size as the middle, but uhm...I put it together, serged it..and realized I put the snaps facing the wrong way! :banghead: the longest one is the last one I did and I can totally tell Im getting more used to the serger, when compared to the others haha
amorton1437
08-01-2010, 09:42 PM
I would like a serger to use, it would make diaper making so much easier, but sergers scare the crap out of me. It looks like a sewing machine that took growth hormones or something.
virginia
08-01-2010, 09:46 PM
I think it is so cool, that it trims the fabric as you sew haha so I dont even have to have my cuts all perfect..not that I do anyhow but still! I watched Katie use hers a few times, so it wasnt too bad..but it totally has a learning curve! Good thing Nathan needs new diapers :D Though I dont plan on doing any serged ones..unless I still turn them. I prefer T&T

ETA: This is one I put snaps on the other day. Its a fitted, and has a snap in soaker of I think 3 or 4 layers of bamboo fleece, that folds over at the end and then a smaller lay in soaker, of like 3 or 4 layers..so there is like 12 layers of fleece right where he needs it! That works really well too. and doesnt seem to be that bulky at all. I tried to get a front shot, but he was moving too much and they are all blurry haha

My makeshift clothesline - http://lh3.ggpht.com/_un4wg-ZRtw4/TFcbiHpHXwI/AAAAAAAAH8k/QNoAeca7YJU/s640/P1050005.jpg
My newest diaper with a cute fleece outer fabric. Soaker is sewn into the inner fabric and is 2 layers of MF and 2 layers of Terry. Seemed to do the trick today. I need to fix the elastic, though. I don't like the elastic I had - I'm going to change it out to other stuff I got. Otherwise it works pretty good. The inside is blue flannel and apparently needs to be washed a couple more times. Audrey was covered in blue flakes when I took the diaper off.

The way I do elastic is easy peasy. Sew at one end where I want the elastic to be,top stitch around the elastic and then stretch it as much as I can and then sew the other end.

You dont tack it at both ends first? So do you have a safety pin or something on the elastic to pull it through? My brain isnt figuring out what your saying

I hold it in place and position it under the foot, sew a zig zag, back stitch and then do a straight stitch, turn it, stitch along the elastic and once I get to where I want the other end of the elastic should be, I turn the diaper to the side, then I pull it as tight as I need to and do a zig zag to the edge and then back stitch and straight stitch. Then I cut the elastic. I dont pre-cut the elastic, I always messed it up that way, so I just leave it full length and then trim. :)

No I don't stitch it down... It's hard to explain lol. I still stitch AROUND the elastic. I just hated sew down one side, pull tight, sew other end, and then topstitch so I combined them all into one step lol
amorton1437
08-02-2010, 10:10 PM
Interesting! How do you pull it through to the other end?
Well my dipes are T&T, so when I top stitch I leave one side open, I don't top stitch it till the end, so I just reach through there to pull the elastic through :)
virginia
08-02-2010, 10:16 PM
I think Im still confused haha oh well :) I tack mine to the seam allowance, before even turning the diaper..Then I flip it right side out, and top stitch it. When I get to the elastic, I grab the bottom, pull the elastic tight and sew around it. I can top stitch the entire thing without having to stop. No messing with the elastic, because its already in there...I just stick it where I want, pull it to the next mark, cut it...
wannaBmomma
08-02-2010, 10:16 PM
I just stitch one side down then I have a threader thingie that pulls the elastic right down then I stitch it on the other side. Easy pesy.
amorton1437
08-02-2010, 10:20 PM
I sew the diaper wrong sides first, turn it right side out, top stitch, and then I do the elastic by stitching from the outside of all the layers... The only diaper I can really compare it to is a GM. Very similar to that.

It took me a few tries. I have a few its caught in the casing haha I was too lazy to take them apart. If you pull it pretty tight and angle the bottom away from the needle some, it seems to help. I probably make bigger casings then I need to.
Ok Angela, I think I get it more now. I was looking at the GM and thought it was interesting that the elastic was tacked down on the outside lol

Basically since you don't cut the elastic until last you are just tacking one end down. Then, T&T'ing the legs then after you sew down the leg you pull the elastic tight and tack down the other end. I think that's what you were trying to explain right? Since you aren't cutting the elastic's length first you don't have to worry about tacking down both ends. I think that is what your trying to say. I also do this same thing. What I do is measure out how much I'm going to need then mark the elastic with a line. Sew down one end, finish my casing, then pull elastic tight to the line I drew then tack it down.

I have an awesome DH who handles R while he's home, and I have a wonderfully independent daughter who enjoys playing alone in the yard with the dog. As long as I give her food, drink, booby, and attention when she asks she's quite content. R is also a very good listener and for the most part does not mess with my sewing stuff. :)

I really struggle with time to sew. DS is not independent at all. I am lucky to be able to go to the bathroom or fold a load of laundry without interruption! During his nap, I eat lunch and relax. If there is time, I will cut something out. Then, the next day, maybe I will sew a little. It often takes me days to complete something. DH does take DS inthe evening, but he gets home late and I am usually too exhausted to do anything and I need to get dinner and other stuff done. I try to get sewing done onthe weekend.

Oh man ... I couldn't nurse Audrey while I sew to save my life. She wouldn't nurse when I sat at the computer, I can't imagine doing somethign that required thinking and concentration. Good for you!!!!
Audrey is mostly independent, but too young to go outside and play. And when she sees mommy doing something, she just likes to help.

This sounds like my situation. DH is happy to help when he is home, but he works long hours and when he does get home in the evening, we have dinner and time to spend with our 12 year old, and then it's bedtime. Noe used to go to sleep with DH fairly easily but lately - 9 month sleep regression? - it's all mama all the time. She doesn't nap alone either, so there's no break during the day. I'm trying the No Cry Nap Solution but so far, no dice.
I finally was able to transfer Noe to DH late last night to try to sew the romper, but it was almost 11 and I was so tired, I made some bad decisions and kinda messed it up. :(

And 3 new diapers I made while housesitting this last week.
I'm really happy with the purple and pink one. I played around with the length and wings and finally got it the way I like. I'm still playing with the elestics.
The top is a minky and OBV. It's sooo soft, but for some reason it's a little funky looking. The Soild zebra has a sewn in soaker and I've desided I don't like that. Takes too long to dry. I'm going to stick with lay in soakers.

The top is a minky and OBV. It's sooo soft, but for some reason it's a little funky looking. The Soild zebra has a sewn in soaker and I've desided I don't like that. Takes too long to dry. I'm going to stick with lay in soakers.

Oh, and if anyone wants to do another diaper cut trade or sell I have some left of each fabric.
Super cute!!

Not really diaper related, but here's the romper I made last night.

That romper is adorable! The baby wearing it is cuter though :)
