Hi ladies! Well the latching on for my baby Kayleigh is going great, she is now almost 3 weeks old (on Fri) and gained 2 POUNDS at her 2 week pedi appt!!!! wow!!! she is doing great.

I do have a question, one breast is always fuller than the other, and when I pump both at the same time (I pump once at night so daddy can feed her afterwards..) there is almost twice as much milk in that breast! my questions are 1. should I even worry about it? 2. should I worry that when she does BF, if that breast is the second breast she does not completely empty it? 3. should I try to get them to even out?

Its not that uncomfortable, but the fuller breast can definetely become quite large and more engorged, but it doesn't feel hot or look shiny. She can still latch onto it when it's very full. I just worry a bit about clogged ducts or infections by leaving milk still in the breast.

thanks a bunch! Christina

Congrats on the great gain! Isn't it wonderful to know that YOUR body is nourishing her and causing all those chubby little folds? :)

Re: uneven supply, don't worry--some women normally have a "mighty righty" or "loaded lefty." You can try nursing her on the lower-producing side first at more feedings to see if it helps.

How often and when (in relation to feedings) are you pumping?

yes, it is so neat to know it is my body making her grow so healthfully!!! :)

I pump once at night, so that DH can feed her the bottle and so that he can bond and she can get used to an occasional bottle.

hehe, I am definetely a loaded lefty! I wonder if it has anything to do with being left handed....hrm....

anyways, thanks for the advice!!glad i dont have to worry. :)

I have the mighty righty so I always try feeding DD off the left one more. Just because you pump less from her right one, doesn't mean there isn't enough milk produced though. You may just be having slower let down.
WTG with the weight gain!

I was told in the hospital if you get lets say 2 oz out of one your boobs that you really have a lot more than that because the pump is not as good as the baby. Also one boob makes more than the other and not to worry this is normal.

I would like to incorporate this into our routine as well-- when did you start pumping?
