I'm debating on my little man's future bed options.

Right now he's in a bassinet next to our bed, but he does have his own room. There's no crib in it though. We had borrowed a crib from friends, but when she discovered she was pregnant (so not planned), they asked for it back. So I now I find myself in the market for cribs.

And I've been cruising through Craigslist. But I need to decide if I want a crib that's a toddler bed, too. Long before I ever got pregnant I thought toddler beds were a waste of money - because I thought you had to buy yet another mattress. I didn't get that it's the crib mattress. I had always planned to go from crib to a twin mattress (either on the floor, and/or with a side rail).

Now that I'm looking to buy, I don't know exactly what my plan is.

What did you all do?

Garrett went from a pack n play to a twin on the floor. He fell out once or twice I think, and that was it. Thats my plan with Nathan.

toddler bed was useless; the bed is basically the same size as a crib would be. DD hated the toddler bed but LOVES the twin. On the floor or with a side rail is way better than a toddler bed. I just found it to be a waste of money and time.

we will be going from crib to a double with rails... since thats what his crib will convert to. we will be skipping the toddler bed.

when lulu was 15 months we went from crib to twin size bed..with a railing on side for her..

ive alwasy looked at toddler beds as a waste of money..and i liek the extra room they have to twist and turn in a twin bed.

I have a crib that converts to a toddler bed. my son slept in it until he was almost 4 and now sleeps in a full size bed. I'll be using the same crib for my daughter. :)
I also have to add that the crib I got was secondhand (though barely used - it was still in new condition). for $200 including the mattress it wasn't a waste of money for us to get the combo. the same convertible crib without the mattress retailed over $600 in baby stores. so.. I'd recommend if you can find one that's not too expensive then go ahead and get it if you want the toddler bed. :)

I have a crib that converts to a Tod bed, but my other three teens went from crib to mattress on the floor to a twin bed. I'm not sure if I'll do that again or not since I have back issues and getting that low is an issue for me.

Our crib converts to a toddler bed. That's what my daugther sleeps in now (the toddler bed.) She's doing very well in it. I think we made a good investment!

I take the front rail of my crib and put a side guard on it until they are able to get in and out alone and do not sleep against the guard. Then right to a twin. everyone I know who got the crib to bed set never used it. They put the next kid in it or then went and got different furniture.

Josh has a toddler bed but he hates it and I can't even crawl in there to snuggle him (I'm short enough, but afraid it will crack under my weight LOL)
So we are thinking of getting a twin, because he will need it someday anyway. I hope it works out better for him but who knows. He loves our bed so maybe being in one similar to it will help.

I will switch daria into a double bed with rails along the side when she outgrows her crib. Honestly its only because she truley genuinly prefers the softer matress to the crib.

I said other cuz my crib converts to a toddler bed and then to a twin bed, so I am not sure what we will do when she gets bigger and doesn't need the crib. I guess we will have to play it by ear.

When he could climb out of the crib, we converted to the toddler bed. We've just now put a full size mattress on the floor and are getting a platform bed for him this weekend. We probably wouldn't have made the change to the mattress if I weren't pregnant though.

My true option would have been cosleep-to toddlerbed with then without a safety rail to regular bed.

My girls went from my bed to a toddler bed. I got the toddler beds from a friend so I used them until we needed bigger beds. L has a portable crib that I set up for his naps. It uses a different sized mattress so I wasn't planning on a toddler bed BUT then Dh bought him a racecar toddler bed! If it wasn't for that I would skip the toddler bed.

It's very hard to find a rail that fits a crib sized mattress. That's another reason we're switching to a twin bed--so we can put a rail on it!
