Ok so last night i had to go to the ER via ambulance because it had a horrible stomach virus and couldnt even walk. I knew it was dire that i get some fluids, since im still nursing and i told the ambulance worker that was working on me on the way to the hospital.
She tells me that i have to stop nursing because the virus is in my breastmilk :dunno: and that eden could get it. First off, she already had it this weekend yesterday morning, and Madison had it friday night into saturday.
Isnt this nuts? ive never heard of this. i have heard of moms losing their BM from being dehydrated. im trying so hard to get fluids in but they keep coming out, one way or the other.
The virus isnt in my BM is it? was that crazy or what?

um, that sounds twacked to me... I mean, yes, soe viruses can be trasmitted thru BM... but, the benefits of continuing to nurse far outweigh the risks of your child getting a stomach virus. At least, IMHO. Plus, she's already had it... she shouldn't get it again.
I'd even be likely to write a letter of complaint about poor medical advice... KWIM?

She was really nice, just uninformed. and i was like :eyebrow: when she told me that, and i basically ignored her. i had just never ever heard that before. i didnt listen to her. ive been nursing today in between trips to the bathroom.
right now im just trying to keep from having a dip from being dehydrated.

I have heard of the small possibility of some of the Hep viruses, and HIV being transmitted thru breastmilk, so, it's possible.
But, since she had it first, she probably gave it to you anyway!
Stay hydrated, get some rest if you can, and it'll pass. :hugs:

That is crazy! The one thing my pedi always says is that it's better for me to get it first than her. That away my body will start to build antibodies and I can pass them to her. I was told to make sure I keep nursing even if I'm sick. My pedi's office is very pro bfing.

That sounds bunk to me. Its especially good to nurse during sickness cause breastmilk helps the body heal and theres amazing antibodies in breastmilk from the immunities youve built up. I wouldnt stop nursing.

Thanks Ladies. Im still battling diarreah, and my whole body aches because i think im a tad bit dehydrated. I havent eaten anything today, i sipped on some chicken broth and kept that down, so i think im going to have more.
Corrie, i love that word "bunk"
