Our Pedi asked us if we want to give this to the babies...I guess our tap water doesn't contain it. Any thoughts on this, do you give it to your babies?

yeah shouldn't be consumed under 12 months in water
not in drops under 6 months.
which doesn't make sense to me. .. maybe theres more in water then drops. I dunno.

I gave Sam the vitamin drops with flouride from 6 months because our water doesn't have.
I recently switched him to a flouride chewable tablet (prescription).

Oh my goodness...this is no good. Our Pedi prescribed the vitamin drops (with fluoride and iron) when Cadence was only like a month old...oddly enough, I never believed him and felt it weird that my BM wasn't sufficient for her. On top of that the drops stained everything horribly - and she clearly didn't like the taste! So I never gave them to her. Well, now she is 7 months old, and I started feeling guilty about now giving it to her...so I purchased the Enfamil Poly-Vi-Sol with Iron (no fluoride), and planned to give her fluoridated water in a sippy cup - for the specific purpose of the fluoride.
????
I will have to ask Pedi next time we are in (printing this link to take as well...)

That's what we do, too, with our ds.

It was suggested by our pedi but after telling her we don't agree with some ingredients in the prescription and that we'll pass, she was fine with it. We do have it in our city water and I cook with it so she's comfortable with my decision. We don't give the city water to the kiddos in their sippys to drink though. They get the filtered good stuff.

We were never told it was a problem. We have fluoride in our city water and his formula is made with it.

When I talked to our pedi about vitamins when we were there about a week ago, she was surprised we have not been giving him ones with fluoride (we use just a plain multivitamin - no iron either). I told her that I give him nursery water with fluoride in his sippy cup and she said it was fine then. We just started the nursery water about a month ago because until then I gave him just plain bottled water.

My pedi never prescribed flouride but my dentist gave me a script when Hannah was 6 months old. However, after doing some research I decided not to give it to her. However, now that she is almost 2.5 I need to look into this again.

While over-fluoridation is a valid concern, that's an extreme, alarmist website, full of very VERY biased VERY unsound "research".
Fluoride drops are not recommended before 6mo of age, or if your child is already getting fluoridated water through tap water or cooking, either home or daycare.
Just take note, this is a hot topic, full of quite a bit of conspiracy theories about adding fluoride to water. To each her own, but alarmist websites are unnecessary. I mean, c'mon, fluoride occurs naturally in water in some regions, which is how the oral health benefit was discovered.
I'd be happy to point you to plenty of public health websites that back up the positives of fluoridation, with DECADES of logitudinal studies showing how this was one of the US's public health major milestones.

ditto
We do have flouride in our water but he doesn't drink it so it would certainly not do it any good. I did the same with my older son.

Drink city tap water which has flouride in it, use it to cook, and used it to make formula.

Yeah, that website is not exactly a fair and balanced source.
My dad is a dentist and we trust him--he'd hardly be in favor of something that would be harmful to his own children and grandchildren, KWIM?

I dont get it. I thought it was bad. I suppose I should read the links above, but at the moment I dont have time. I dont give dylan anyflouride that I know of, unless its in our well water. But I also read some where that wells should be tested incase floride is present, and then it should not be given to them. uhg, I hate opposite information!!! totaly stresses me out.

Too much fluoride is bad and too little fluoride wont help strength the teeth (to prevent decay).
Here is the link from the American Dental Association and there information on fluoride:
http://www.ada.org/public/topics/fluoride/fluoride_article01.asp#systemic
We give Quinn the drops because there is no fluoride in our water.
