View Full Version : Playtex Storage system - Can I cry over my own spilt milk?

I recently discovered the joys of the Playtex storage system (http://www.amazon.com/Playtex-Breast-Milk-Storage-Kit/dp/B0011UH78G/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t) that lets you use the drop in liners as storage. A set of the storage ring and cap came with my newborn set that I got at my shower.

I discovered I spend less time getting milk ready in the evening (for the next day of daycare), if I use this storage system. I fill a bag at each of my pumping sessions at work and cap them off. I transport them in a tupperware container so they aren't crushed by stuff in my bag. At home I just wash the nipples, drop the full liners in the bottles, put the nipple and ring back on and I'm done.

I've been doing this for 2-3 weeks now and it's been working quite well. There was a time or two last week that when I went to add other to the stash at the back of my desk, I noticed there was a little milk on my desk. I thought maybe it was pressure related, from the air in the drop in, so when I cap it off, I squeeze the bag at the bottom so there's some give to it.

I finished pumping at lunch today and turned to process my milk into the drop in, and find my morning bag is half empty. I lost just over 2 oz all over my desk and paperwork. I haven't shed a tear, but only through shear willpower. I sure feel like bawling my eyes out, especially since my supply hasn't bounced back 100% since first AF.

Has anyone else used this storage system and had these problems?

I don't know if this is a fluke - maybe it was just this bag. Maybe I got it on too tight. Maybe it's because I'm using off brand drop ins and not the Playtex brand.

I don't want to go back to using storage bottles because of the time in the evenings. But I also don't want to lose any more hard pumped milk, either.

Hmm.. I never had problems with either off-brand or playtex brand, so maybe you just got a bad lot? I'm very sorry, though. 2 oz of milk is like 2 pounds of gold. ((hugs))

I've used them and I use target brand drop ins with them and have never had a problem. Recently whenever I do pump I just use a self sealing storage bag because the playtex system too bulky for a freezer stash. But anyway, no I've never had a problem with them. Maybe it was just a faulty liner?

Hi - frequent lurker here.

I loooove the Playtex Storage system - I've talked about it incesantly to every momma I know.

You definately have to use the playtex drop ins. I've had leakage issues too with the store brands. I nearly lost it when I found my work cooler filled with that morning's milk one day. No problems since sticking to the Playtex ones.

Hope that helps.

I use them and have no problem...except once...it spilled while I was filing it (slipped out of my hands), it spilled a little over 4 ozs...I did cry! And just last week I had two bottles in the freezer door at work, soemone opened it and they went tumbling to the ground...6 ozs...lost. Good luck with it, I've used the bages from the beginning.

Hmmm, there's a pretty good price difference between store brand and name brand. Though I hear good things about Target's brand. This box is Parent's choice from Walmart. Maybe I'll avoid those in the future . . .

I've not had any leaking problems with the generic in the actual bottles. And only 2-3 with the storage system (out of maybe 50 bags?). So maybe it was just a defective liner.

Depressing, nonetheless. And thanks for the hugs. :eyeroll:

Agreed - I use Lansinoh bags for freezer storage because I freeze them flat. I only use the Playtex storage system for the fresh milk I pump one day to send to daycare the next.

I have used them occasionally for my nephew. I find that if I try to squeeze the bag for some extra give they end up leaking. No problems when I don't do that though.

Hmmm, see I figured it was a pressure thing because of my office at work and having the heat on. When I didn't give my morning bag a squeeze, by lunch it was on the hard side (like someone had pumped air into the bag) and had leaked maybe a quarter teaspoon of milk onto my desk.

Just following up on my own thread.

I've switched to the Target brand of drop ins, and have stopped squeezing the air out.
I have had ZERO leakage with them and am on my third box.

I'm just going to throw away the Parent's Choice brand drop in I have left. They weren't that expensive, and I think I know why now.
