My friend is due in April and next month we plan on finishing up her baby shopping. She isn't sure what bottle she can use when she needs to feed pumped BM. Which bottle(s) are best?

Depends - baby will likely have his/her own preferences and you might need to try a few.

Definitely get a slow-flow wide nipple.

We used Playtex Vent-Aires with the slow-flow wide nipple - there are tons of others out there (Dr. Browns, Born Free etc etc).

So a bottle with a wide nipple would be best? I saw the medelas etc when we were at BRU, but I'm like :dunno:

I love the glass Dr. Browns that we have. They prevent the baby from swallowing air, and they are glass so no BPA. They are expensive, but since I only pump occasionally, I only bought 2 and I am fine.

Wide nipple, slow flow. Both replicate the breast as much as possible.

Caleb liked the older Madela nipple, it was flat on one side, round on the other, and had a wider base. But the Nubi was a good one too, and Dr. Brown's.

My lactation consultant got us started on the playtex, drop-in's with the slow flow nipple. D D loves them and does well with them. We were instructed to keep her pretty upright and to get most of the air out of the bottle to make her work, more like she has to with BF. We had to supplement for 2 days until my milk came in. I had no problems with her latching properly, which is what people worry about early on.

I used the Avent with my boys and they both did fine on them.

With Myla I am using the Medela ones since I thought it would be easiest to pump in the bottles and be ready to go. She doesn't have a bottle that often and when she does it is pumped fresh so my plan didn't really work out that great. However, she likes the bottles so that is fine.

We tried Avent bottles, they suck - flow was way too fast for him. Dr. Browns seemed better but he hasn't eaten out of a bottle in months. Dr. Browns now makes a BPA free plastic bottle as well.

We use playtex drop-ins with the slow flow nipples. The package we got comes with fast flow nipples but we will never use those. I'd avoid anything with a long nipple; those make my daughter gag.

Elliot really loves the Born Free's. Wide and slow. The only other bottles we've used have been the Dr. Browns which he loved and the Adiri which were the biggest pain EVER!

We use Avent (BPA-free versions; the new hard bottles or the Temp drop-in system) and their slowest flow nipple and both boys took the bottle well. You can get a connector kit to pump right into Avent bottles from a Medela or Lansinoh pump, too.

This is what we used for the whole 3 days she took a bottle :eyeroll:

I've heard good things about the Adiri (sp?) but haven't tried it.

I know the Adiri is alot like breast. We have one but DS won't take a bottle so I don't have much input!

We use Avent (with the Tempo liners), Playtex Drop-Ins, and Born-Free. DS took all of them very easily at first, but now he struggles to drink from any of them.

We use the Adiri. You just have to be patient with them to learn on they work at first. We tried every bottle out there until we found this one and Logan does great. It has a short nipple and it's soft like the breast so he has no problem going back and forth! He would almost choke on all other nipples so this one is perfect! They sell them on-line at amazon, which I found was cheaper than BRU.

I use Playtex drop ins with the "Tri Cut" "variable" flow nipple. Isaac couldnt get anything from the slow flow. We also use Nuks in the slow flow from time to time, but mainly the drop ins.
