I just got an rx today for nuva ring.

Rob is supposed to be going for a vasectomy soon, so I got this for the mean time rather than the mirena.

Likes / dislikes.

My dr made it sound like a great b/c.

This is the first b/c Ive been on since before Marissa. Im actually happy!! :P

I loved it. I had no side effects and I did with other types of hormonal BC.

I loved it.. I had it before I had Andrew. I had no compliants at all. It did take a month or so to get used to inserting it. You will have to find the best way to insert it and to get it out. (it's not as gross as it sounds, I promise) PM me if you want to know the ways I used..

I used it as well...DH ended up with a rash from it that went away after we stopped using it.

um....Keira happened on it?

Seriously, though, I liked it, but I did get pregnant my 6th month using it. It's the same hormones that are in the Mirena IUD, I believe. I had no discomfort from the get-go with it. No problem taking it out. Hated paying $30/m for it, but other than that, no problem. Actually, the cost is why I went with the Mirena after Scharae-much cheaper in the long run for the same hormonal birth control.

Likes: I couldn't feel it. It didn't cause nausea like all other estrogen b.c. for me.

Dislikes: NO SEX DRIVE, My body actually wouldn't even respond to anything sexual (poor dh). . . it was BAD! Sometimes when I first put it in it would feel like it was coming out and I would have to put it back in a couple of times before it stayed.

GL! I'm not 'normal' LOL! So hopefully you will have better luck w/ it than me. I'll admit I have issues when it comes to b.c., fertility, and childbirth. LOL!

I loved it while i was on it but when I came off of it my cycles were a mess and it took me a year to get pg with Dominic. Not sure if it was the ring's fault but it made me pretty anti hormonal b/c after that.

I loved it and used it for about 5 years. Although the pregnancy before Tempe happened while I was on it.

Didn't work for me....see little Miss Manda down there in my siggy?

I also had horrible break outs and the thing fell out in bed one night, DH found it the next day (and we didn't even do anything that night). Just was not great for me.

This is my 2nd month on it. I am not so sure I care for it. I have a horrible time getting it where it needs to be and making it stay. I know--I'm weird. I also dont like that DH can feel it. Thats weird to me. I am going to try it for 3 more months (I just paid out the A55 for a new prescription) and if it dont get better, I may look at other options?? Not sure what though.

One pro....I have lost about 8 pounds since I started it. Even with the holidays!

Hmm.... not sure Im likin all the "oopsie" pregnancies. ??? Well I had already told Rob he was still pulling out. He asked what the point was of b/c then and I told him for the added protection. I do not want another child. My three are perfect for me.

add another one to the "oopsies" pregnancy.

It was great, couldn't feel it (and Daria's father never could either) and it said in the literature that it could be removed for up to three hours (never had it out more than 10 minutes).

Downside was it would fall out if I...uh...."strained too much". Never fell into the bowl but came pretty darn close once.

I liked it because it was easy to use. I got pregnant after 9 months of using it though. My doctor said the reason I got pregnant was because it kept coming out during sex. The pharmacist said that wouldn't hurt anything because the ring is constantly letting hormones out and he said I should've had enough hormones to keep me from getting pregnant..

One way or another...I got pregnant.

Jai, I don't wanna sound like a downer...but PLEASE make sure that you don't want anymore children before your DH has a vasectomy. They are reversible however, not everyone has luck with it. :) I had my tubes tied and I want another girl now. Go figure. LOL

Hmm. I was just asking about the ring over in August 08 Births and someone was kind enough to direct me to this thread. I'm thinking of using it too, I have samples and will get started this month. Now I freaked about the 4/15 ppl who have gotten pregnant while using it! That doesn't seem like the 99% effectiveness claim it is supposed to have. Is it possible the ring wasn't used properly or during the right time frame?
I guess I'll try it. Seems like most ppl like the comfort and lack of side effects. Thanks for the input!

I used it for almost a year.
con--I never had a sex drive until the week I had it out. Those one weeks a month i went into a crazy sex drive. That one week two Decmbers ago, I didn't put it in on the day I was supposed to--and kept forgetting for a week and that's when I became pregnant with Madison. So, techincally it was user error and not the ring's fault.

pro-I never felt it. I'm on it now and BFing--no supply problems (those are d/t working 13-14 hour days and only being able to pump twice). DH never felt it either. You can also take it out up to 4 hours (i think) if your DH can feel it during sex.

Also, before Madison I paying $30 a month was cheaper than having a child....ooopps, my bad!

I know with 110% certainty that I do NOT want another child. Im very happy with my 3, and to be honest, dont think I could ever handle 4. :shame:

My dr warned me that the urologist may be hesitant to do a v on Rob because we're only 25 and if that happens I guess Ill use a longer term b/c until he can get it done. ??

Thanks for all the imput guys. So far Im really liking it. I cant feel it at all. :P

I've been using it for several years and loved it. Never had a problem, really. DH couldn't feel it most of the time, and if he did, it didn't bother him.

It took only a couple weeks for me to get pregnant after I stopped using it, even though my Dr. told me it'll take longer. I think that's what I'll use after the baby.

I loved it! I was bummed when I had to switch back to the pill (the cost went up and the pill was much cheaper) And 3 months after I got on the pill again I got pregnant!

After baby is born I plan on getting the ring back.

I asked about the Nuva-Ring at my PP appt and my OB told me that you cannot use it if you are BFing?

Most birth control when used properly (i.e. taken every day at the exact same time) is usually only 96% effective (why they always suggest backup method). Typical usage though is around the high 80's (%). It all comes down to how well your body absorbs the hormones. (according to canadian Nursing 3rd Edition).

As for me, I was using it properly far as I know.

I am so glad I found this post! I just discontinued using the Nuva-Ring after 9 months. It is NOT the worst BC out there, but it still did not agree with me! I had no sex drive, just a general blah feeling and headaches. I personally just do not like the idea of hormonal contraceptives. My question to all of you that have used it at one time or other and are no longer using it is...what did you notice during your first cycle after you stopped? The reason I ask this is because if I had not just come off of BC I would say that I am pregnant for sure, but with this little twist...who knows! I know for a fact that I ovulated on Day 14 due to the fact that I took a test, had the pain and the nice CM. The strange part is that I have had what I would call ligament pain and some cramping up to this point (day 24 of my cycle) and now today I had a tiny amount of light brown discharge when I wiped this morning! I did all this with my last two pregnancies, so I guess what I am asking is could this also be from the Ring or should I start preparing for #3?

Considering you are 92w 1 day pregnant--could you FINALLY be in Labor!!!

Seriously...my SIL was on the ring for about a year. She took it out, had her period and didnt have another--because she was preggo. You might be getting ready for #3.

LOL!!! Oops, I guess I should probably update huh? I was just a little busy with the two kiddos. WOW...wouldn't I be busy with 3!! Oh well...I am o.k. with it if there is a #3 on the way. We tried for #1 for 9 years so let's get them here and be done with it!

Yeah...I am not sure what to think! It really isn't all that possible, but yet when you are messing with hormones, who knows! I did test this morning and it was negative, but considering I just had the light spotting this morning it could be too early. I suppose it is just a guessing game at this point, but don't get me wrong...I will be testing every day until!!!

Thanks for the replies!!
